Designed to be a more economical offering from Murray, the simple styling of the Comet didn't last long and was quickly overshadowed by the more expensive Torpedo. The Torpedo featured the same body as the Comet, but was painted in vibrant colors and had chrome trim and more chrome accessories.
Since th ebody styling stayed the same, this pedal vehicle has sparked controversy as to what it's true name should be...Comet or Torpedo. Some even refer to this style as a Buick, since Murray's top of the line Torpedo featured port holes which replicated the styling of the full-sized Buick automobiles of this era.
Murray's Comet and Torpedo pedal cars were offered with many different graphics painted on the sides. The background colors accurately depict original paint color schemes from Murray.
