Item Details

37-41 Ford Spindles, Specify bolt pattern,
44" Wide axle - 52 1/4" hub to hub.

Notes

  1. If using steel wheels with Wilwood kit, you will also need to purchase (2) steel shims part 835-3007500. These shims will prevent steel wheels from galling the aluminum hub.
  2. Rubber brake hoses generally cannot be adapted to Wilwood calipers. The caliper inlet fitting is a 1/8-27 NPT. The preferred method is to use steel adapter fittings at the caliper, either straight, 45 or 90 degree and enough steel braided line to allow for full suspension travel and turning radius, lock to lock.

The width of axle that you require will depend on the wheel and tire combo you plan on running, as well as personal preference as to where you want the tires to sit. This kit offers a 56 ¼” hub face to hub face. To determine what width of axle you need put your car on jack stands but keep it as low as possible. Then set your tires and wheels where you want them to sit inside the fender. Next measure the distance between the wheels. This measurement will be taken on the back face of the wheel where it bolts up to the hub. If you like the placement of your tires as it is now you can simply remove the front wheels and use a couple of straight edges to measure from hub to hub on your current suspension.

62 Falcon Gasser I'm building a 62 Falcon for drag racing. Could you tell me what the unsprung height is from spring pads to spindle center? I'm thinking of using a 4 or 6 " drop to get the nose down. If I estimate the weight to be 1k to 2k lb, @400lb/in would that be about 2.5 to 5" of sprung drop? I know this sounds crazy but can I get drum brakes. That way I don't have to worry about caliber clearance.

From the top of the spring pad to the center of the axle is 2 ½”. On a dropped axle the drop is figured from the bottom of the axle to the center of the spindles or king pin boss. Figuring in the extra inch to the bottom of the axle and then using a 4” drop instead of straight the spindle center would be ½” above the spring pad. Each spring carries the same weight rating of 400-425 so for the pair 800-850 so your spring compression would likely be only 1 ½ to 2 ¼”.

You could probably fit one of these gasser axle kits under your truck but there will be significant fabrication required. Check your hub to hub width of your current front end and then order kit with the closest width to your original.

Speedway’s gasser axle kits such as 9103544 can be used on almost every make and model. They come in different widths and to determine the width you need the wheel and tire combination you plan on using in order to keep the location in the fender well in your desired location. The hub to hub dimension we list is hub face where the wheel will bolt on to the opposite side hub face. You could set the tires where you want them to be in relation to the edge of the fender and then measure side to side at the mount surface of the wheels.

Part # 9103544-50 These gasser axle kits will work on most any application imaginable. The width of the axle determines the track width which is the hub face to hub face where the wheels will bolt on. An example is a 48” axle will net approximately a 56.5” track width. Use this to reference with the wheel and tire package you plan to run to determine the width axle to order. The springs in the kit are more than sufficient to support the pickup you referenced.

Ride height figures are drastically different depending on drive train, frame configuration, tire and wheel size, etc. From the centerline of the spindle to the frame at free height and no load is approximately 10 ½” to 11”. Centerline of the spindle would be the same as center of the wheel and from there you can calculate the above dimension with your wheel and tire combination. This is figuring that the frame rail mounts will both be parallel with the ground and if the frame kicks up ahead of the firewall you would need to allow for the kick up.
