Here's a quality piece to consider

By Mr. Fixit from Wellington, Florida on 10/4/2010
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I am using this steering box on my 23 T-Bucket and its quality is visable as soon as you open the box and pick it up. It is clearly stronger and more heavy duty than its OEM counterpart. When I build another car needing this type of steering arranmement, I will steer clear (pun intended) of anything else.

Three Times is a Charm

By Mr. Fixit from Wellington, FL on 3/28/2011
Pros:
Durable
Best Uses:
Small Cars
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The overall construction of the cast steel case is tremendous, especially compared to the OEM aluminum version. I am now on my third unit due to a top seal issue with the first and a bottom seal with the second. Speedway made good, each time replacing the defective unit. The third unit that I recently received appears to have been enhanced by Flaming River to eliminate the prior issues and thus far seems great.

Great Steering Box

By Mike from Troy, MI on 1/30/2012
Was this a gift?:
No
Pros:
Compact
Describe Yourself:
Auto Enthusiast
Cons:
Bolt Pattern mounting
Best Uses:
Hot rods
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This gear box is much heavier duty then the old stock aluminum Corvair boxes but in the same compact size; it is still very light weight too. The only thing I didn't like was the threaded bolt hole mounting pattern; they are not through holes and require the bolts to be routed up from underneith. For me, this required one of the bolt to pass through my frame. Using a separate bracket bolted to the box first and then to the frame would also work and not require drilling through your frame.

Service & Delivery comments:

Delivery was very fast; items arrived in good condition.

Q:

I'm considering this box for my 39 plymouth truck which will have a 620 lb. hemi in it. Not sure what the complete truck will weigh, maybe 3000-3200. Will this box be strong enough for that application ?
