Q & A

What's in the Box

Looking for a little more interior room and a lower profile in your T roadster? Then try our Deluxe '27 T! The all-new Deluxe '27 frame features the same triangulated four-bar rear suspension as the Deluxe T, but with a longer wheelbase and extended rear frame section to accommodate Speedway's high-quality fiberglass '27 T roadster body. The body-and-frame combo can be used to build a hot rod with the same open engine bay and fenderless look of a T-bucket, but offers a lower seating position and a lot more legroom. Try it on for size!

Shown with optional rearend and engine mounts installed. This part number does not include a rear axle housing or engine/transmission mounts (as pictured). If you wish to add these items to your chassis, simply purchase these items along with your frame kit.

Doors are shipped hinged and latched, but they do require fitting and hanging onto the body by the owner.

All of our T kits are also available with chrome suspension.  This option includes chrome plated: front and rear hairpins, rear coilovers, front axle, front leaf spring, front shocks, steering arms, tie rod, drag link, and related hardware.

We use plywood for the floor on the bodies that we install floors in. The expanding body mounts 715BM401 are what we suggest to use for mounting bodies to boxed frame rails such as this kit has.

From the front of the frame to the front of the body is 40 ¼”. Unless setting the radiator ahead of the frame you will need to allow for the radiator and the shell which usually sets behind the front round tube cross member. If you go from the firewall to the edge of the T grille shell you have approximately 32” and inside to the radiator you could add another 1 ½”. If contemplating an inline six or eight the frame would need to be lengthened.

Our T bucket frames are not long enough between the firewall and the radiator for an inline Chevy six cylinder including the larger 292 size. The frame will need to be cut and sleeved for additional strength and then welded together by the builder.

Will your universal Top Iron Kit #91655803 fit this body?

Answers

April 28, 2014
EricM
Our universal top kit number 91655803 could be modified to work on the 27 roadster body. Detailed instructions are available here: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/pdf/916-55803.pdf The instructions will give you an idea of how the top bow kit is installed on a '28 and up car and may help you understand the mounting process and modifications required for this smaller and narrower body. The windshield frame you use would need to have the top part straight and not in a V pattern.

The 27 frame besides being a longer wheelbase also has a longer frame because of the drop back down behind the rear end and extend back. Measurement on file for overall is 107 ½” end to end.

We cannot do a custom build on the 27 body for suicide doors. All the molds and blue prints would require change. Customers familiar with fiberglass work have done this modification in the past but for time and materials we cannot verify. If you purchase the kit it would be up to you to reverse the door mounting.

Do all '27 bodies come with a floor mounting lip? If a lip is molded into the inside bottom part of the body to mount the floor, does this lip go around the entire inside perimeter of the body, or is the lip present for just the cockpit area (and not the turtle deck also)? Thank you!

The 27 roadster body has approximately a 2” lip for the floor around the entire body including the turtle deck. The only exception is at the firewall there is no lip.

On the 27 T the chassis is set up for the Vega box and with the light weight of the car the Vega handles the steering without much effort. The location of the Vega mount and the pitman arm itself put the drag link fairly parallel with the tie rod as desired. If going to the cross steer rack the unit bolts to the existing Vega mount and would end up with the drag link lower at the rack itself and the unit would sit lower than the Vega box. The drag link tube would require modification as the frame is narrower than the Model A. This would be a builder installed application and if ordering the chassis the Vega box and components could be returned for credit if desired.
