What's in the Box

Now you can have the strength and serviceability that Ford drivers have enjoyed for years underneath your GM vehicle. Currie Crate Rearends are built using the stock overall width, pinion offest, and mounting points of your original rear axle housing, making it a 100% bolt-in upgrade. Designed as a bolt-in kit for 1964-66 Chevelle, El Camino, Skylark, Cutlass, LeMans/GTO applications.

  • All new 9-Plus heavy duty housing
  • Urethane upper control arm bushings installed
  • 31 spline performance axle shafts

Note that '64-'66 Chevelles had a flat style spring pad on the housing which was used up to early '67. This housing may be used in your '67, but you must first check the spring pad type to make sure it is the right one for your vehicle.

Note: Works with Speedway rear disc brake kits, 11" Ford Explorer disc brakes, and Wilwood disc brakes. Third member sold separately.

How to Measure Your Housing Tech Tip (Link)

Need a certain length not found on our site?  Check out Currie's 9+ Rearend Calculator to have specially sized axles or rearend housings made for your specific application.  Custom orders will be built and processed directly through Currie Enterprizes and shipped to your door. For ease of ordering, please refer to Currie's Dimension Diagram

Installation Notes:

When installing new axles in rearends with posi traction differentials, be sure to install the driver's side axle first to keep the splines properly aligned.  Failure to do so may move the two splined gears out of alignment, and it may be difficult to install the driver's side axle properly if the passenger side axle is already installed.

If installation of passenger side axle is done first it may require two people when installing the driver's side axle, with both parties rotating reach axle until splines are in line and the driver's side axle fully sides into the housing.

To ensure you get the most out of your new 9 Inch components, Currie recommends that you perform a proper break-in process:

  • Use a name brand mineral-based gear oil, preferably 85w140 (Extremely high quality synthetic oils may be used once break-in process has been successfully performed)
  • Place vehicle on jack stands and let the rearend spin while the vehicle idles - run transmission in both forward and reverse periodically throughout the process
  • Continue to run the rearend until the pinion gets hot (place hand on bottom of the differential housing to verify this)
  • Proper break-in allows:
    • The ability to install new axles and hit the track the same day without worry
    • Extended life for rearend components
    • Keeps the quality and life of your gear oil

Note: If you find that your rearend is running somewhat "tight" be sure to add Currie's 9+ Friction Modifier to "loosen up".  If a more aggressive performance is desired, Friction Modifier is not needed.

I am very happy with my purchase, the housing looks great and measures the same as my 65 Chevelle 10 bolt. The only thing I noticed was it comes with 1/2 inch wheel studs not 7/16 as advertised, wheel bearing were not pressed all the way on the axles, and it does not come with factory style bushing, it comes with rebuildable joints installed. Overall this is a great piece.

  • definitely hard to hurt this setup
  • great housing
  • welds look awsome
Cons:
  • no drain plug installed

This rear end will accept your stock springs, control arms and links but it will not accept your original backing plates and brakes. We offer a drum brake kit number 91096227 along with Speedway and Wilwood disc brake kits. Ratio wise our third members lowest numerical ratio is 3.50 and you would need to get with Currie for a 3.23 or so for the ring and pinion.

These kits are sold as a pre packaged unit, so I am sorry to say we don't offer these particular axles separately. We do offer cut to fit 9" big bearing new style axles if you have a certain length you are looking for.

I have a 1967 Chevelle and was wondering if this axle will fit my car? the only measurement that i know offhand is the flange to flange (where the back plates bolt on) is 54 5/8". But I would have to measure again for clarity....I was just trying to find out if I am in the ballpark as you advertise rearends for 64-66 models and 68-72 models but it doesn't include the 67s.? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

This may be the correct rear end for your '67 but you will need to check the spring pad style. The '64-'66 Chevelles had a flat style spring pad on the housing which was used up to early '67. Check the spring pad type on your '67 to make sure it is the right one for you. The '68 to '72 housing will not work in any of the '67 models since the track width was widened approximately two inches on the '68 to '72 models.

Part number 91006466 is a Currie 9” for the 64-66 Chevelle and El Camino. It is designed to work with the original control arms and springs for a direct bolt in application.

I have a 1964 C10 pickup, step side. Do you have a complete, turn key reared to place under my chevy? Also with disc brakes? Do you have anything that will work or know where I can get something that Will work? Thanks. Dave

Currently Speedway does not stock a direct bolt in 9” Ford rearend for your 1964 pickup. We do offer the installation kit with brackets and adjustable track bar under part number 91006072. A new nine inch rear end with axles is part number 91045100. A new third member with Currie posi is part number 91048345 with your choice of ratio, and a bolt on disc brake kit is part number 91031902 or 91031921 with E-brake calipers. Welding of the brackets to the housing tubes is all that would be required for installation along with the overall assembly and filling with gear lube.

We start with reclaimed, genuine Ford 9-inch carrier housings and then clean and inspect them prior to installing all-new bearings, seals, a 1310-series yoke, and your choice of ring-and-pinion gears. The 1310-series yoke is the correct size for many Ford applications with cups 1-1/16 inch in outside diameter and a span of 3-7/32 inch across.

These Ford 9 inch third member assemblies feature a Currie 9-Plus limited slip differential available in 28 or 31 spline axle shaft configurations.
