T-Bucket Application using Rev. Corvair Steering box I have an earlier Speedway cast aluminum rev. Corvair steering box with pitman arm. The connecting pitman arm hole is tapered and the drag-link's thread's are 5/8. Can these threads be over taped to the 11/16 and will this tie rod end fit my pitman arm? Can't use a heim-joint and bolt as the bolt's diameter will be too small. If this can't work, what will? Thanks a Bunch!

Depending on the year of your parts the pitman arm Speedway offers for the Corvair box is double tapered to accept the standard Ford style tie rod ends. This allows running the drag link from either side. If you want to use the heim ends you can drill straight thru and then the 5/8” heims we offer have the 5/8” hole size to use 5/8” bolts. The threads cannot be enlarged to go from 5/8” to 11/16”. If you have an original pitman arm the taper was 10 degree as compared to the 7 degree on the current version of the last several years.

Plain Finish Cross Steering Tie Rod End, 11/16-18 LH Threads
(Part #91002999)
Cross steering means the drag link reaches across the car and attaches to the passenger-side steering arm. If that steering arm has only one hole, you'll need to build the tie rod with this tie rod end on the RH side. Then the drag link attaches to the eyelet (which is tapered 1/2 way from both sides.)
  • Not for use with flat steering arms
  • Use only with Ford type steering arms with a tapered hole
  • Not normally used with Chevy spindles

Note: When using the cross steering end, the tube length will need to be 6" shorter than the eye-to-eye length. Example: A 46" kit will need 40" tube length.

Chrome Steel Jam Nut, 11/16 Inch-18 RH NF Fine Thread
(Part #91001007)

If you've got spherical rod ends on your vehicle, you'll probably need jam nuts. You might also need them for tie-rod ends or other types of fittings and connectors. Our jam nuts are made from premium chrome steel and they're available with right hand threads.

These steel fine thread jam nuts are for use with rod ends, heim joints, and clevis.

  • 11/16 Inch-18 RH NF Fine Thread
  • Available in right hand thread.

Note: Always run a tap or die over and through any chromed threaded item. Apply anti-seize liberally to both threaded surfaces before assembly to prevent galling of threads. Learn why running a tap or die over new threads is so important prior to assembly in our tech article, Installing New Hardware.
