Q & A

What's in the Box

These new lower control arms fit 70-94 GM. They are bare and will require you to install bushings and K6141 Moog-style ball joints.

This control arm is not an OEM replacement and is therefore suggested as an off road/circle track racing control arm only. We recommend applying a tack weld to the bottom of the ball joint.

Use 1971-76 Impala/Caprice press-in ball joints 917-20038 at right.

Fits

  • 1973-1977 Chevelle
  • 1975-79 Nova
  • 1970-81 Camaro
  • 1978-94 Metric Impala

Left is pictured.

Item Details

This control arm is not an OEM replacement. We recommend ball joint 91720038 or equivalent.

Nice piece, but pay attention to the bushing install

October 26, 2015
Good piece! The arms come with the sleeve of the bushing installed, so if you buy the good bushings they recommend you will have to remove the bushing from the sleeve to install. No instructions so look closely. Ball joints press in extremely tight. You will have to use a press.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Stamping seem thin

July 21, 2015
Part was clean and well painted. Had to remove stock bushing sleeve and replace with Speedway urethane bushing. Bent control arm when pushing in bushings. Material seems thinner than stock. Would rather buy reclaim arms going forward.
Pros:
  • Clean And Well Painted
Cons:
  • Bent When Press Bushing
  • Material Thin
No, I would not recommend this product.

The arm that you are looking at will fit the only problem I see is the ball joint. These arms take a balljoint equivalent to a Moog K6141 which is a balljoint out of 71-76 Impala however it is still a 10* taper. Hope this info helps you out.

AFCO 20038 Standard 1971-76 GM B-Body Lower Ball Joint
(Part #10620038)

Not all ball joint are created equal.  Thats why AFCO uses the best components from the top manufacturers.  There are many different design characteristics and manufacturing processes that account for the quality and performance of ball joints.  These joints will give you the AFCO advantage!

AFCO 20038LF Low Friction 1971-76 Impala/Caprice Lower Ball Joint
(Part #10620038LF)

AFCO Low Friction Ball Joints are designed with 2 ft. lbs. of resistance, the force required to move the stud of the ball joint.  Compare this with standard replacement joints, with as high as 50 ft. lbs. of resistance.  A difference you can feel!

It is critical to handling that suspension components be as free as possible to move.  Low friction ball joints allow the suspension to give rather than allowing the tire to bounce over rough surfaces.  Low tire pressures magnify the need to minimize friction in the suspension.
