needed work

when i received the jag rear end cover that was to be polished i was very disappointed,they did not polish all of it. so i spent another 275.00 dollars to get it done wright.

Oil Leak Issue

This is a great looking item. Really dresses up the Jag rear. The only negative is that oil leaks out of the vent. Apparently the ring gear throws the oil up in to the rear corner of the cover and it comes out the vent under some pressure. The cover needs to have a baffle installed to deflect the oil away from the vent. The manufacturer should provide the baffle or warn the purchaser of the need for one.

Some quality issues

I purchased the polished version. It was not very well done. Lots of areas were not smoothed out or polished. I spend several hours "finishing" the unit myself. Needs internal baffle covering vent hole to keep oil from being thrown out the vent. The unit I purchased had varying degrees of thickness in the mating flange surface which made the unit mount a bit cockeyed. I should have sent it back and gotten another one, but I am living with the short comings of this one.

  • looks good when oil cleaned up from vent
Cons:
  • varying degrees of workmanship
  • high priced for quailty

To verify fit of the 10 bolt mount pattern the dimensions are as follows. Side to side horizontally the center to center of the 4 bolts (two on each side) is 8 11/16” Vertically the two mount holes furthest apart is 9 3/16”.

This Jaguar IRS rear tie bar is made of cast aluminum that is fully polished. The tie bar (also called tie link) connects the lower control arm bolts together on the back side of a Jag IRS rear end.                         Whether you're running a stock flattie and rearend or hopped-up overhead and quick change, you need to run a good gear lube. Remember that your rearend was designed fifty plus years ago and needs all the help it can get. 

The biggest improvement you can give it is a lubricant that will allow the gears to survive the highway speeds that cars see today. L.E. gear oil is what we use in our 350 mph streamliner, that uses a V-8 quick change, without failure. The "red stuff" provides superior lubrication for long gear life. You can't win if you don't finish. We suggest 90 weight for the street and 140 weight for extreme uses.
