The brake kit number 91031945 or the 91031946 both require the inner race to be replaced with the other race included in either kit or also in the basic kit number 7024475. The change properly locates the rotor in the correct location on the spindle for alignment with the caliper. The Chevy bolt pattern rotor is a 73-77 midsize GM and the Ford bolt pattern is a redrilled 73-77 GM to the 4 ½” bolt circle. The outer bearing is the original 73-77 GM with the .750 I.D. If you need the outer bearings and races part number 912TLM11949 and 912TLM11910 would fill the needs. Seal number for replacement is # 912S18562.

Would it be possible to swap the caliper brackets side to side, to mount the calipers ahead of the axle, instead of behind?

Caliper brackets could be mounted so as to put the calipers ahead of the axle. In doing so you must also switch the calipers side to side to keep the bleeder at the top for proper brake bleeding without caliper removal. Stopping ability will not be altered.

Brackets in kit number 7024475 work on the 37-48 Ford spindles or our aftermarket 28-48 spindles. To get the Ford bolt pattern of 5 on 4 ½ we use a GM rotor that is drilled with the Ford bolt pattern. If you have a bearing supplier in your area it may be possible to mix and match the bearings to get the correct offset to align with the calipers.

Wilwood 120-11870-BK D154 Single Piston Floater Caliper, Black
(Part #83512011870BK)
Wilwood's D154 forged billet caliper is a direct bolt-on, lightweight, high-strength, extreme duty alternative to the OE cast iron calipers that were used on a wide range of factory disc brake equipped mid size GM cars and small trucks beginning in 1978. Use of this caliper can still be found on some GM models as late as the year 2002. The wide spread and affordable availability of D154 calipers and brake pad compounds also made it a popular choice in a number of restricted class competition categories and drum to disc conversions on all types of hot rods and street machines. There are three piston configurations available for the D154: A large 2.50" single piston, and two two-piston models featuring 1.62/1.62" or 1.12/1.12" pistons. All three calipers utilize stainless steel pistons. Stainless pistons are used to resist corrosion and retard heat transfer from the pads into the caliper body. High temperature, square faced bore seals are used to provide controlled piston retraction and reliable performance from the wider sealing face. This combination of components is a proven performer with long service life and a history of reliable performance in any type of driving environment, including extreme sustained high temperature racing applications. The caliper slide pin holes are fitted with dampening rings to minimize noise from vibration. The caliper is also fitted with bleed screws on both ends to facilitate mounting in any left hand or right hand, front leading mount, or rear trailing mount locations.

Wilwood 140-12097-BK D154 Front Caliper Kit, 2.50 Piston/1.04 Rotor
(Part #83514012097BK)
Wilwood's D154 Front Caliper Kit is a direct bolt-on 1 or 2 piston, lightweight, high-strength, extreme duty alternative to the OE cast iron "Metric" calipers that were used on a wide range of factory disc brake equipped mid size GM cars and small trucks beginning in 1978. Use of this caliper can still be found on some GM models as late as the year 2002. Forged billet aluminum bodies, stainless steel pistons, and competition style high-temperature seals put an end to the rust, bore pitting, and seal failures that plague the OE caliper design. D154 calipers provide low-maintenance performance and a huge weight savings with high temperature reliability for the street and track. D154 calipers mount in the stock location over stock rotors; use the original style OE D154 brake pads and an OE M10-1.5 banjo bolt brake line mounting. D154 Calipers can be used with most wheels that clear the OE calipers. The front calipers with 2.50" piston provide 4.90 square inches of piston area per caliper, in order to maintain the original front to rear brake bias and use of the OE master cylinder. The D154 is also available in a two piston version with 1.62 pistons, offering 4.12 square inches of area. Kits contain Wilwood's hardened slide pins and BP-10 high friction pads. Matching rear calipers are also available for custom installations. Custom stainless steel brake lines are also available.
