In 1952, the BMC Wheel Goods Company produced the #8 Special race car, as a toy version of the Speed King race cars seen on dirt tracks of the early 1950's. Two heavy duty versions initially appeared, both with red paint and white wheels. The deluxe model had semi pnuematic tires while the basic racer came with solid rubber tires. Both offered a working hand brake and race car exhaust pipe.
At some point during the production, BMC offered a yellow painted version of the #8 Special. The BMC Racer was very popular, with its authentic, aerodynamic design, and smooth riding chassis. The easy to turn, "S" steering wheel added to the race car feel. Production of the BMC Racer didn't last long, and today, if found, a #8 Special brings a high price.
These cars were offered with a single graphic painted on the sides. The background colors accurately depict original paint color schemes from BMC. We have all the parts and accessories to give your #8 Special a first-place finish.
