SOME DRAWBACKS

December 03, 2014
Somewhat disappointed with this mount. The two smaller holes for mounting are placed in such a way that a bolt cannot be placed through from the tube side of the mount. They would either have to be welded on, or bolts inserted through the flat back side with nuts, in which the one nut cannot be used because of the close proximity of the mounting hole next to the vertical shoulder of the mount itself. If you must use them, welding them on is probably your best option. Also, don't expect the extended part of the tube to slide into a coil over bushing,,,it's way too big. I don't believe they were intended to mount that way but I wonder what the extended part of the mount is for.
Pros:
  • strongly made
Cons:
  • poor mount design
No, I would not recommend this product.

What are the dimensions. I am installing tube shocks on my 46 Ford coupe and want to use the cross member that is already there. I have a gap of 2 1/2 from the cross member to the edge of the shock.

On bracket number 9161090 the side with the two mounting holes is 2 7/8 long by 1 15/16" wide. Tube is 4” long, 5/8 diameter, and 1 13/16" extends past the bracket. Mount surface to end of long side is 2 5/8" x 115/16”. Sides where tubes protrude are 1 7/8" tall and short side with rounded corner 2 1/8" to the corner. Material thickness 3/16”. You will likely have to fabricate another bracket first or go with another style. The shock mount should be located so that the shocks are in the middle of their stroke with the car sitting on the ground.

Center to center of the two bolt mount pattern is 1 ½” and can be used on Model A or any hot rod frame. The mount holes are not specific to any application.

Speedway sells the ONLY fully engineered shock mount. The 5/8" forged button head bolt looks good while offering maximum support.  The 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" billet aluminum support spacer has internal threads. This allows you to properly support this shock without crushing the bushing like others do, which leads to shock failures. There's a reason major chassis builders use this mount.

  • Billet aluminum
  • 4-1/2" from base of head to end of threads
  • 1-1/4" shock mount base
  • Safely mounts to brackets 1/2" thick
  • Includes required washers and nylon lock nut
  • Mounts sold individually
