What's in the Box

Finally a bolt-on power rack and pinion for 1955-57 Chevy cars. Simply remove the original steering box, idler arm and tie rod assembly and bolt this unit back in using the original mounting holes. Includes tie rod ends, special steering arms, and a pair of banjo fittings to adapt to AN6 fluid lines. Can be used with most GM steering pumps.

  1. This item must be used with OEM style spindles. It WILL NOT work with dropped spindles.
  2. Designed for use with S/B Chevy 265-400 c.i. V-8.
  3. Must use chassis headers and a stock type pan sump for clearance.
  4. Steering U-joint 910-32255 is required (17mm).

Notes

  1. Our headers 930-C5 and 930-C5H will work with a Small Block and this rack and pinion steering. Our tight-fit headers and Tru-Ram manifolds WILL NOT work.
  2. If using this rack & pinion kit with a big block (396-502 c.i.), you will need to use a C-notched oil pan, and special headers will be needed from TRI-5 R&D at phone (253) 278-7475.

Steering Shaft, 3/4 Inch O.D. Double D, 4-16 Inch Lengths, Steel
                        

This steering shaft is 3/4" O.D DD. This steering shaft also has a 1.00" long "D" design on each end.

This steering shaft entails:

  • 1018 Steel
  • Weld on
  • Excellent for steering shafts or other uses 
  • Order desired length

NOTE: This DD shaft is only milled with flats on both ends for 1" of length of the shaft. It is not milled the entire length of the shaft and therefore, can not be cut to length unless it is going to be welded to a 3/4" round or has new flats milled into the end. Please see Flaming River DD shaft if fully machined DD shaft is required.

Tuff Stuff GM Saginaw Power Steering Pump with Reservoir
                        These Saginaw power steering pumps from Tuff Stuff come with a new reservoir, billet cap, chrome hardware and new dipstick. Desirable early style 1965-79 pump with threaded and keyed shaft for easy pulley installation. Available in powder coated black or chrome finish. Hoses are available from most local parts stores. 

Pump has a 3/8" hose barb for return line and a female 5/8"-18 inverted flare fitting for the high pressure outlet. Pulley not included.

  • Saginaw power steering pump with a new reservoir, billet cap, chrome hardware and new dipstick
  • Powder coated black or chrome
  • Keyed shaft for easy pulley intallation
  • Pulleys available in plain, polished, and chrome
  • 6" diameter pulleys not included

Works well with small block Chevy engine brackets 916-67920 or 913-32902.

3/4 O.D. Solid Steel Steering Shaft
                        

Speedways steering shaft is made for you to cut-to-fit. This steering shaft entails:

  •  3/4" O.D.
  • 1018 solid steel steering shaft
  • Available in 24", 36", 48", 60" and 72" lengths

Unisteer 8050230 Steering U-Joint, 9/16 Inch-26 Spline to 3/4 Inch DD
                        

These polished stainless steel U-joints look great and use a pinch bolt on each end for easy installation. These universal joints are 3-3/4 inch in length and have a 1.650 inch outside diameter.

  • The OD is 1.650" (41.90mm) 
  • 3-3/4" in total length

This size of spline works with Unisteer's Cross Steer Rack & Pinion, Prostock Rack, and Manual Camaro Rack & Pinion and is also the size of manual Mustang Style Rack & Pinions.

NOTE:  These u-joints contain a safety feature that requires the DD steering shaft to be notched for pinch bolt clearance. Once notched, the pinch bolt MUST be torqued to 45 ft/lbs to ensure a tight fit.

Chrome Warning: Due to a revised chroming process brought on by recent EPA regulations and high labor costs, today's chrome is not the quality of days gone by. Be Aware: Exhaust components which are chrome plated are now much more susceptible to blueing, blistering, peeling & corrosion. No warranty or returns on chrome exhaust items once them have been installed.

Note: Stainless header tubing when exposed to exhaust temperature will cause the finish to change color which will vary with the exhaust temperature. Please note that the finish of the header when the engine is started, will change to a light champagne color to a darker gold finish and in some instance may even turn dark blue or purple. This can be polished back out when utilizing Blue-away or Simi-chrome polish, but please note that when the headers reach running temperature again, they will immediately change color.
