TREMEC TKO transmissions can be shifted from three different locations - front, mid, and rear. From the factory they are configured as a rear shift. To change the location, you must purchase a mid or front shift kit (sold separately) and the rear shifter location is capped off with the provided plate.

TREMEC TKO transmissions are a great replacement for GM Muncie four-speeds as they have been configured to bolt up to the stock Ford bellhousings. Keep in mind that TREMEC TKOs are larger and taller then their 4-speed counter parts. The only parts needed to convert from a three or four speed is a cross member, shift lever, shift ball, and shorter speedometer cable. The driveshaft length may be affected for the GM conversion (check transmission dimensions). The slip yoke will have to be changed to match the 31-spline Ford-style output shaft (use Speedway # 910133031).

I put a Tremec TKO-500 in my 1955 Chevy to work with a mild FI 350. The transmission is absolutely fantastic! Shifting is very precise and crisp and the gearing is perfect. It is quiet, smooth and dependable. Installation is pretty straight forward. It's a little bulkier than an original Muncie or Saginaw but I did not need to rework my transmission tunnel. I did have to reverse the shifter plate to move the shifter to its forward-most position, but that is a simple process. I will absolutely use one of these in any project car from here forward!

what would a average be for top speed in a tremec tko 500-600 I seen a YouTube video of a guy using a tremec tko in a corvette and a camaro. He claims the camaro would max out at 105mph and the corvette would max out at only 78mph. I'm sure gets plenty of power but do you have to sacrifice speed for power? I plan on buying a 77 trans am with a Pontiac 400 ci 6.6 ltr engine and was wondering if I would run into the same problem.

Most modern computer controlled engines will have a speed governor built in. The top speed achievable depends upon the power of the engine, aerodynamics of the vehicle, as well as the weight of the vehicle. It is nearly impossible to estimate a top speed.

As far as a reverse switch for the TKO 600 we apologize but do not offer it. For that Tremec direct would be the best option. On the Speedometer pigtail we have two depending on if your plug in is male or female. 910700021 has the male end and 910700020 has the female end.

The Tremec 5 speeds are built to replace the common 3 and 4 speed transmissions such as Muncie, Saginaw, etc. To work on your inline six bell housing will either require a different bellhousing or adapter which we apologize do not currently offer.

This TKO 500 is a direct replacement for a Muncie or Saginaw or other GM transmissions so to put behind the 78 small block all you need is the bellhousing for one of the above transmissions and the Tremec will bolt right in. With shifter location ability to change it will fit where you want it. If you don’t have a bell housing or access to one we offer 5158650, 91027010, or 91027015 depending on whether you want to run mechanical or hydraulic release bearing or slave cylinder. Then a clutch pack such as number 60588761 for the 26 spline input shaft and a flywheel such as number 6051511. From that point either mechanical linkage or hydraulic T/O bearing or slave cylinder.

This transmission could be swapped into your '67 Chevy truck but the first gear ratio of it is 3.27:1. You will not find a performance transmission with that low of a first gear ratio. If you need to keep the low first gear with an overdrive you may need to look toward a later model overdrive transmission out of a 3/4 ton pickup.

Both transmissions come with the rear shift location similar to a toploader. The input shaft and bolt pattern are the common Muncie pattern so your bell housing will need to accept that mount pattern. As far as shifter location you will need to mock up your seating and do some measurements from your bell housing back to determine which shift location best fits your needs.

Yes these Tremec transmissions all use the Ford 31 spline slip yoke. We do offer the slip yoke as part number 910133031 and they use a 1330 U-joint. We can also supply you a conversion u-joint to go to a GM drive shaft if you need it as well.

Transmission number 91029027 is provided with the case mating to a bellhousing that had the Muncie, Saginaw, etc. bolt pattern and center hole and for use on a Y block the bellhousing would require changing. You may want to check with Mummert (the leader in Y block parts) for a bell housing for this application.

We apologize for the confusion on shifter locations as mentioned. If you look at a photo of the transmission on our website the red plate under the shifter can be rotated 180 degrees putting the shifter further forward for applications where the set back of the drive train makes it more handy to have the shifter further forward.

Transmission number 91029027 has the same input specifications and bolt pattern and would work on the Speedway adapter such as number 91628926. This adapter works on the 48 passenger car engine and if you have a 48 truck or 49-53 engine you would need the OEM 3” adapter bellhousing from the truck series.
