Note: GM columns measure slightly less than 1" while IDIDIT and Flaming River columns measure a true 1".  DO NOT interchange these u-joints.

Application

When purchasing U-Joints, 3 easy steps will help ensure that they will be correct for your application.

STEP 1
Be sure to measure the diameter of the shaft and count the number of splines on the shaft. Some shafts have a blank spot ground on one side. To get the correct number of splines, use a flat edge and cover the blank half of the shaft through the diameter and count the splines on the other half. Multiply that number by 2, thus giving you the total number of splines on the full circumference of the shaft.

STEP 2

Choose which shaft type best suits your application: 3/4" weld on, 3/4" DD or 1" DD.

STEP 3
With these two pieces of information at hand, refer to our chart to find the appropriate part number of the ujoint for your specific application.

Notes

Tech Tip #1: When using more than two universal joints in a system, a support heim must be used.

Tech Tip #2: Increasing a U-Joint's angle of operation beyond 30° dramatically increases the stress on the joint, weakening the whole steering mechanism. If a greater angle is needed, add another u-joint.

910-32283  -  Warning: This coupler is splined 13/16 x 36 all the way through.  It fits OK on 3/4" round shaft for welding, even though it has interior splines.

Sweet steering u-joint

This is just what i needed to finish my Saginaw steering conversion. Sweet Mfg. is highly respected in the industry, especially the circle track car group. The quality of this u-joint is very good

This steering u-joint is small but strong and looks very nice. The spline was a snug fit so it doesn't wobble on the shaft. There is no drag or bind in my steering with this u-joint.

This U joint has a set screw on the splined end. The 3/4" round end does not have a set screw. It needs to be welded on the 3/4" round end.

Your 75 Regal should have the 13/16x36 spline on the steering box but we always suggest double checking the diameter of the shaft just prior to the splines. In some applications they were 3/4" instead of 13/16".
