This axle has the spring perches 34 3/8" from center to center. If you have a specific axle you would like to know the perch centers on let us know. Unless specified differently a 46" axle will have perch centers of 34 3/8" and a 48" axle will have perch centers of 36 3/8".

The drilled I-beams only are available in 48” width and are set up for a cross leaf or buggy style spring. Depending on your wheel and tire package you plan on running the 48” may be on the narrow side for your application. Next problem may be the spring. Since this axle is designed for a single cross leaf the standard spring is capable of 2500 pound vehicles and would have to be altered by adding a leaf or two for the heavier applications. On the Tri-5’s that have an I beam most are opting for the pickup axles that ran parallel leaf springs, one on each side, and this would easily handle the weight and give more stability on the heavier vehicles. We do offer part number 9104754 for the early Chevy pickup. Not a true I beam but similar configuration. Problem that arises is that we do not offer the early pickup spindles and this would be up to you to locate. Many options are available and totally up to the builder for his preference and sometimes budget.

Speedway 1928-1948 Ford Forged Spindles Only
(Part #91632104)

These Speedway spindles are a one piece, drop forged design constructed of high strength 4140 steel, which makes them superior to original components. These spindles are modeled after the '37-'41 round-back design and use '37-'41 Ford kingpins. They  fit Ford axles from '28-'48 and can be used with period correct drum brakes or modern Speedway Motors disc brakes, but will not work with hubs from '28-'36.

  • Uses 1937-1941 kingpin kit

  • Will not work with 1928-1936 Hubs

Be sure to include our kingpin kit (91032121) with these spindles.

(Part #91645127)

  • 40-3/4" from the front perch bolt centerline to the end of the 11/16"-18 threaded rear bung
  • 1/2"-20 threaded roid to allow a spring behind perch, shock mount or other hardware to be used
