Bad, bad filter.......but it looks great.

September 09, 2015
I have had this filter apart several times because it leaks. I get the gasket on the bowl sealed only to have the retaining bolt washer leak. The worst part is that I never know when it's going to let go again or why.

Street Rod Fuel Filter

July 13, 2012
This is the second fuel filter...both were the same. The first was purchased and installed by the builder of the car and the filter leaked fuel from the top center bolt even after it was tightened. The second leaked out the threads on the engine side of the filter. I threw both away and purchased a metal inline fuel filter. There have been no further problems.
No, I would not recommend this product.

Looks good on the outside

April 04, 2012
The fuel filter looked good from the outside. I had trouble installing the fuel fittings and I had to run a tap into the housing to clean up the threads. After doing this I opened the filter to make sure no shavings had got inside the filter. That is when I found the inside of the housing full of dirt and junk that was left over from the plating process. If you purchase this filter, make sure you take it apart and inspect it before you install it.
Pros:
  • Easy To Install
No, I would not recommend this product.

Impossible to seal from leaking.

July 11, 2011
Impossible to get a seal due to low grade gasket material. It appears that modern fuels cause swelling and eventual failure of the gasket. Cannot get this to stay sealed over winter as a result. If the replacement filters came with quality gaskets, then we would have a winner. Forced to go with a Fram canister from elsewhere that uses the superior Wix (NAPA) filter element and gaskets.
Pros:
  • Easy To Install
No, I would not recommend this product.

Part number 91011770 These filters do not list a minimum fuel pressure and are commonly used on low pressure systems such as the early flathead V8’s. Not recommended for high pressure injection systems.

The top center bolt fastens the filter housing together. The two mounting bracket bolts with the allen head do not need to be removed in order to change the filter.

Installing the filter ahead of the pump should work fine. The only concern I might remotely consider is the possibility of air entering the system due to a marginal seal somewhere around the filter. It is easier for air to get through than fuel to go through, which can be a disaster for you fuel supply system. Because of this it is considered best to keep the connections to a minimum on the suction side.
