What's in the Box

This sending unit for electronic speedometers has a .894" (7/8”) female attachment nut to attach it to the transmission or out-drive unit.  This is similar to the female threaded ring on mechanical speedometer cables. The GM sender for the electronic speedometer installs like the original speedometer cable does. The assembly has a gasket and when tightened down could still turn unless it is not tightened securely. It may be possible that the drive tip is too long and bottoming out. The sender does not have to be tightened to the point that it is takes a long wrench to torque in place.

Most electronic senders for the speedometers do not include the cruise option. You may want to consider to simplify things Classic instruments Sky Drive with cruise under part #2751023. Many of the senders require a separate sender for the cruise control.

On the Stewart Warner GM sender the red wire is positive, black is negative and white goes to "S" terminal or refer to your instructions for the gauge for proper connection.

Thank you for your interest in our, Senders for Wings Electronic Speedometer. Unfortunately these sending units are for automatic transmissions. If your 1948 ford has an automatic transmission then read the following description. The Senders for Wings Electronic Speedometer, item # 665-82623B. This sending unit for electronic speedometers has a .894 or 7/8” female attachment nut to attach it to the transmission or out-drive unit. This is similar to the female threaded ring on mechanical speedometer cables. NOTE: Our adapter #665-366ADB is necessary when using an electric speedometer with a Ford automatic transmission.

This pulse generator is for the newer transmissions with the threaded 7/8” male boss that the speedo cable attached to. The early Ford transmission speedo cables were retained by a lock ring and spring clip and utilized a cable with a bigger diameter drive tip than the later years. We are unaware that a pulse generator is manufactured for the early transmissions but with some of the original drive cable it may be possible for a builder to fabricate the necessary parts, or you may want to contact the gauge manufacturers to see if such a generator is produced and if so the nearest vendor.
