Will not fit a Model A with fenders

August 18, 2012
This is a really nice part, well-made, sturdy. It will not fit a 30-31 model A with fenders, however. The angle/height at shock mounting point is all wrong for that.
Pros:
  • Very Well made
No, I would not recommend this product.

These upper shock brackets are a nice mount for a model A or 32 running full fenders. The angle outward allows clearance for the fenders that bolt to the top of the frame rails. Be sure to position correctly by having the fenders installed when mocking up.

can I use these mounts as part of a conversion to tube shocks on my 46 chevy 1/2ton from the dual action factory shocks? im converting the front shocks on my 46 chevy pickup from knee action factory shocks to tube shocks and need upper shock mounts and was wondering if these would work as upper shock mounts

Shock brackets such as 91636004 are one of several that could be used on your 46 Chevy pickup to update the shock style. With a little homework you can determine which upper bracket will work the best. Try to use a bracket that will accept a common length shock to avoid additional expense. Shocks list the extended and compressed lengths or the mounted length which is mid way in the shock stroke. Other brackets to consider are 91036008, 91036009, 91636001,or even number 91636501.

1948-52 Ford F1 Forged Upper Shock Mounts, 5-1/2 Inch
(Part #91036008)

After more than fifty years of use, the original upper shock mounts on the front of your vintage Ford pickup are likely worn out, damaged or missing. These forged steel upper shock mounts are reproductions of those used on 1948-1952 Ford F1 trucks, but are also adaptable to other beam-axle hot rods. The F1 shock mounts were popular on early-style hot rods where an upgrade to telescoping shocks over lever shocks was desired.

Forged from the finest steel, these zinc-plated mounts are available in 5-1/2" or 6-1/2" lengths (measured from the centerline of the stud to the center of the top bolt hole) and accept shocks with 5/8" I.D. bushings. Hardware is included.

Stainless Steel HighBoy Front Shock Mounts
(Part #91036006)
These stainless steel upper front shock mounts measure 4" from the top bolt hole to the centerline of the stud.  Mounting bolts are spaced at 2-5/16" on center.

Shocks bushing and stainless steel hardware is included.
Front Shock Mounts
(Part #91636001)
Bolt-on for early frames, heliarc welded steel. Perfect for shocks! 5" tall, 1⁄2" I.D. shock boss. Sold as a pair.

Speedway Shock Towers
(Part #91636501)

These upper shock mounts are 10-1/2" from the bottom edge to the centerline of the shock hole. The shock hole is tapered from both directions and will either require our 535-AK35 shock stud kit, or be drilled out to 5/8".

These mounts are a cut-to-fit item and require welding and fabrication skills.
