What's in the Box

Info

It doesn't get much more traditional than running a set of split wishbones. These split bones are all new with forged front yokes just like Henry built them and fit a 2-1/4" axle boss.

  • 40-3/4" from the front perch bolt centerline to the end of the 11/16"-18 threaded rear bung
  • 1/2"-20 threaded roid to allow a spring behind perch, shock mount or other hardware to be used
  • Material thickness is 12 GA (0.1046")
  • Fully boxed

Notes

  1. These radius rods do not have the original spring perch that goes ahead of the axle. Instead, they have a threaded roid behind the axle that will accept our 916-33002 spring pivot for a spring-behind application. This roid is approx. 3" behind the axle centerline.
  2. Radius rod accepts our 910-02909 tie rod end or 175-0128 heim (11/16"-18 thread).
  3. Direct replacements for our 36" Curtis-style radius rods 916-45114.

Nice, quality

December 07, 2010
I like these, I have always split my own using speedways bung kit, but these are great, they have a good look and seem to be pretty strong. They even have a hole through the cast portion in the front that allows you to mount your spring behind known as "rolling bones" which gives you a lowered stance. The welds aren't the best looking but are functional. Not that the originals looked better.
Pros:
  • Good product
  • Has holes to mount spring
  • Stout
Yes, I recommend this product.

Wishbone kit number 91645127 could be used on a Model A axle but your axle boss may only be 2” in which case we offer the spacers number 91635003. To complete the installation you would need the tie rod ends such as part number 91002909 or heim ends number 1750128 and the correct jam nuts. For the frame mounts you would need part number 91635052 as one example which are a weld on and also offered is a bolt on option under number 91635015.

Part # 91645127 The wishbones attach to an axle that utilizes a perch bolt for attachment of the four bar batwings and also where the perch bolt for spring over has the mount for the shackles. The wishbone attach over an axle boss of 2 ¼” or with a spacer kit a 2” boss. If your axle has welded on brackets for the four bar and spring pivots then the wishbones will NOT be a direct install. Also the mount on your frame rail will need to be changed, moved further rearward, and installed in a location to achieve the proper caster in the front axle.

These wishbones work on the early Ford axles and aftermarket axles with perch bolt axle boss’ up to 2 ¼” tall. If running an axle with a 2” boss we offer a spacer under part number 91635003. For axles with more than a 2 ¼” boss you will need to machine down the axle boss for necessary clearance.

Mounting the wishbone extended center line at 0 degrees will result in 7 degrees positive caster at the axle.

I'm a bit confused about the spring mounting with these. Since the factory wishbone has the spring mounted in front of the axle and these seem to mount the spring behind the axle, wouldn't that move the whole axle assembly quite a few inches forward in the wheel wells? Or do you have to move the spring mounting position in the frame?

These are applicable to 28-34 Fords with perch bolts that mount the spring over the axle. They will not be a direct replacement for 35-up spring in front type suspension. Some guys have also used them for spring behind suspension but that is on a custom frame like our Tribute T kit.

If using these split wishbones with 4" drop axle 91035140 you will need a 29" spring such as 91033134. We offer these items in a front end kit 91639516.

Depending on the axle used the split wishbones can be used with a vega cross steer application. A 3 or 4" dropped axle and the flat plate steering arms will put the drag link between the frame and the wishbone.

How do the wishbones mount to the ibeam? Flat end or curved end of the casting facing up? Also with my flat top perch bolts tightened down the wishbones have up and down play in them. Is this normal? I would think they should be tight?

On the wishbones the flat end or end parallel with the top of the wishbone is on top and the end that goes down and then curves forward is the bottom to give the castor to the axle. The flat top perch bolt tightened up should not allow up and down free play on the axle. If you have an original axle with smaller boss for the perch bolt we have the 1/4" spacers and if too much you will need to use shims as needed. If the play is at the other end of the wishbone this also is not correct and in such a case let us know.

You can use perch bolts such as 910-33047 if you need to attach a spring or part number 720-1043 if you need a flat top bolt.
