Q & A

What's in the Box

If you thought all T-buckets were the same, think again! The all-new Speedway Motors Tribute T breaks the T-bucket mold. It offers the traditional look of classic, competition-influenced roadsters combined with modern components and refined engineering. All this in a comfortable package that's easy to assemble using basic hand tools.

The Tribute T frame has an extra-high rear kickup and Model A rear crossmember that will accept our medium-arch rear leaf spring. Rear axle options include our bolt-on Winters quick-change kit 7151801, bolt-on 9" Ford rear axle option 7151809, or a Ford-style banjo rear end of your choice (must be a centered-pinion rear axle). The front suspension uses a 4 inch drop I-beam axle, wishbone-style radius rods and traditional steering with a reversed Corvair steering box. All suspension, steering and brake pedal brackets are pre-welded to the frame and you can choose from flathead Ford V8 or small-block Chevy engine mounts. A special floor allows the Tribute T body to sit a low as possible, while still providing room for our Bomber Seats or cushions of your design.

Tribute T

September 07, 2013
Absolutely a great kit for the first time builder of a hot rod. Everything you need to complete this car is offered by Speedway Motors, they've taken all the stress out of building. No welding is required, simple hand tools are all you will need. The quality of the parts are top notch. I've built other cars, some from scratch and some kits. The Tribute T kit has been the most enjoyable of all to build.
Pros:
  • easy build
  • Excellent quality
  • many parts to choose from
Cons:
  • need more interior options ie carpeting and seats
Yes, I recommend this product.

We don't have any horsepower or torque ratings on this frame or suspension but it will handle a mild 400 hp small block with ease.

We apologize that there is not a specific manual for the Tribute T. A lot of the same information in the standard T bucket manual can still be informative in building the Tribute T if that would be of interest.

Yes those brake kit part numbers will work with the Tribute T kit as long as you order one of our rear end options. Both the quick change and 9" Ford rear end options will use the 8351407140 rear disc brake kit. The front brake kit 8351401501 that you chose is the medium duty kit and while it will work with a T-bucket we highly suggest the heavy duty kit 83514011013 instead. The difference is that the heavy duty kit has thicker vented rotors. They have much less problems with warpage and overheating. If you plan to drive the car some we highly suggest the heavy duty kit. If it will mainly be a show car that is trailered and/or driven very little then the medium duty kit will be just fine.

On our T bucket kits and our Tribute T the holes for the body mounts, electrical wiring, radiator, fuel cell, fuel lines, and brake lines are not drilled giving the builder the option for locations and size.

Just how much weight can you put (passenger wise) in the tribue T before it's too much? My father is a bigger guy. And I want to build a tribute T with him starting hopefully this spring when we have the money to invest. I just wanted to be cautious as far as loading the both of us in. Is there any suspension upgrades or something of that nature to assure a smooth ride with both of us in there? Is there a capacity limit?

Passenger weight shouldn't be an issue at all. The standard suspension components will be just fine even with heavier passengers.

Front tie rod location I am building your tribute t. I see in the pictures the tie rod is behind and above the axle. Mine does not fit that way and I can only get it forward and below. This appears to throw my ackerman off? Am I doing something wrong? Will it work the way I have it ?Thanks

The Tribute T has the steering arms on the bottom of the spindle and angling up and back with the tie rod on top of the steering arms. The upper drag link arm on the drivers side spindle is on the top holes of the spindle. In doing it like in the photo you will still get good drivability but the ackerman will be off and tire scrub during the radius can be expected. Your way was done for decades and you will still have good driveability.
