We offer our Speedway bolt on disc brake kit with emergency brake calipers part number 91031921 or Wilwood disc brake kit 8351407140 which has a drum style emergency brake. If the cost difference isn't a big deal to you then we suggest the Wilwood kit since the emergency brake calipers are a not the easiest thing to work with. Bleeding them and keeping the emergency brake working properly can be a challenge at times. The Wilwood kit uses an emergency brake system typical of most modern day vehicles with rear disc brakes.

Tribute T rear end I noticed the updated rear suspension features locating links with heim joints. In the interest of being more period correct could a builder safely remove or replace these with something else? Suggestions? Also, could the medium arch spring be swapped for the high arch or would it be too wide for the crossmember? Thanks!

On the Tribute T kit 7151800 the lower links have tie rod ends for a more period correct appearance. The upper control links triangulate the system and do have heim joints. Once mounted with the fuel tank are not very noticeable. They could be swapped with tie rod ends but would require modification to the frame and mounts as the tie rod ends would require a tapered mount. To swap in the high arch spring would require changing the cross member to accommodate the wider spring and the ride height would dramatically change. Most customers desire the low ride height and a 5+” rear height increase would net a dramatic rake and stance.

Is there a special 3rd member to be used with this option in the tribute t kit?

7151809 is the Tribute T 9” rear end option and comes with the 31 spline axles. The Speedway third member number 91048345 in choice of ratios is the standard option and comes with a Currie limited slip unit and all set up ready to install. Add gasket number 9192300 and your preferred posi lube and the unit will be complete.

Ford 9 Inch Posi Traction Third Member Assembly

If you’re looking for a complete third member for your Ford 9-inch rear end housing, but want the added performance of a limited slip differential, Speedway Motors now offers you a 9" Ford street 3rd member for your street rod. We start with reclaimed, genuine Ford 9-inch carrier housings and then clean and inspect them prior to installing all-new bearings, seals, a 1310-series yoke, and your choice of ring-and-pinion gears. The 1310-series yoke is the correct size for many Ford applications with cups 1-1/16 inch in outside diameter and a span of 3-7/32 inch across.

These Ford 9 inch third member assemblies feature a Currie 9-Plus limited slip differential available in 28 or 31 spline axle shaft configurations. This clutch-type differential is perfect for light-to-medium weight street vehicles where one wants posi-action and long clutch life, without the adverse handling effects or noise of a full locker. When coasting around turns, the clutches are disengaged to extend clutch life. When accelerating in a straight line on dry pavement, the clutches engage, sending equal power to both wheels for maximum traction. This makes them ideal for street use, with the occasional trip to the drag strip as well.

All third members are assembled by our team of professionals and are delivered to you in a handy plastic carrying case, for an overall value that can’t be beat

Available in your choice of 3.50, 3.70, 3.89, 4.11 or 4.56 gear ratio.

Gear lube recommendations :

  • 91044090 - for street and every day driving under normal conditions
  • 91044140 -  for extreme duty, towing, or very hot climates

Speedway Tribute T-Bucket Kit Car
(Part #7151800)

If you thought all T-buckets were the same, think again! The all-new Speedway Motors Tribute T breaks the T-bucket mold. It offers the traditional look of classic, competition-influenced roadsters combined with modern components and refined engineering. All this in a comfortable package that's easy to assemble using basic hand tools.

The Tribute T frame has an extra-high rear kickup and Model A rear crossmember that will accept our medium-arch rear leaf spring. Rear axle options include our bolt-on Winters quick-change kit 7151801, bolt-on 9" Ford rear axle option 7151809, or a Ford-style banjo rear end of your choice (must be a centered-pinion rear axle). The front suspension uses a 4 inch drop I-beam axle, wishbone-style radius rods and traditional steering with a reversed Corvair steering box. All suspension, steering and brake pedal brackets are pre-welded to the frame and you can choose from flathead Ford V8 or small-block Chevy engine mounts. A special floor allows the Tribute T body to sit a low as possible, while still providing room for our Bomber Seats or cushions of your design.
