What's in the Box

Info

Kit includes a cast aluminum double groove cast aluminum water pump pulley, crank pulley, and a matched pair of heavy duty belts. Slows water pump speed by 20% for increased horsepower.

  • Upper Pulley Grooves:  Two
  • Lower Pulley Grooves:  Two
  • Upper Pulley Diameter:  6-5/8" O.D.
  • Lower Pulley Diameter:  5-7/16" O.D.
  • Upper Pulley Snout Hole:  5/8" O.D. (can be drilled out to 3/4")

Fits Small Block Chevy V8 with '55-'68 short-style water pump with 5/8" shaft.

Note: The lower crank pulleys in our combo kits are manufactured thicker than normal stock pulleys.  This requires longer 3/8" bolts to be purchased separately.  Allen head type bolts recommended.

Get the correct pulleys for your application by learning which water pump you have as explained in our tech article. SBC - Short vs Long Water Pump.

Merchant Response:

Hi Nick, thanks for the feedback. The belt length is designed to be tight. We recommend assembling the pulleys, and installing one bolt in your water pump. Install the belts, and raise the opposite end of the pump to engage / torque the belts and install the bolt. Feel free to give our Tech Staff a call at 800.979.0122 for further assistance.

Love these

August 22, 2015
Works great but please note two things. Youll need allen head bolts to clear the inside flange. You'll need a longer balancer bolt due to increased pulley thickness. I went +0.750 and it worked great.
Yes, I recommend this product.

pulley combo

March 01, 2010
if you dont run a fan and you are running flat head bolts, you have to countersink the pulley yourself, and you have to buy longer bolts for the lower pulley, but make sure you buy the allen head type as the regular hex head is too big and you cant get a socket on it
Pros:
  • Fits great and looks good
Yes, I recommend this product.

Using one belt to operate power steering pump? In a race application where power steering pump has 6" pully, would using one long belt to go around crank, water pump and power steering pump pull to many/to little rpms on power steering pump if you ran 7200 peak rpm on motor?

Well I turn 7k going into the turn and had no issue with the power steering keeping up I don't know what you asphalt or dirt but I run dirt track and we do a lot of steering and had no issue !

The lower pulley in this kit is 5 7/16" OD so you will be spinning the power steering pump 6524 RPM at 7200 engine RPM. As long as your power steering pump is capable of that RPM range then you will be fine.

No, it is very common to only use one of the supplied belts and then use one groove to run a belt around all three pulleys in order to operate a power steering pump.

1:1 pulleys will have the same OD on the upper and lower pulley. The 20% reduction pulleys will have an upper pulley that is 20% larger in OD than the lower pulley. This reduces the speed of the water pump.

Depending on what the application the pulleys may need to be shimmed to assure proper alignment. We do offer our Speedway part #91015721 or AFCO part #10680065 for lower pulley shims. The other option would be to press the hub on your water pump further, you would need to be careful so that the fan bolts do not hit the water pump.
