Great value

October 19, 2014
Have very loud big block vette with Hooker headers and sidepipes. Installed Classic Chambered fiberglass wrapped mufflers. Way too loud and a loud drone noise. Purchased a pair of 3" auger inserts. Trimmed to fit inside header end of mufflers. Did sound testing with my cellphone app before and after augers. Interior drone noise decreased considerably. Inside and outside decibels with the windows open and closed dropped about 5db + or - 2db. Am considering another auger in opposite end of muffler. The design of the auger does not reduce the exhaust air flow enough to notice performance issues. Chuck
Pros:
  • reduced decibels and drone noise
Cons:
  • had to trim auger to 2-1/2" to fit muffler i.d.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Great product

August 25, 2014
This is the perfect muffler in my opinion! They slip right in the extensions and no welding or grinding was needed and they sound awesome. I would recommend these mufflers to anyone wanting the look of straight headers without the noise. They aren't too load but they aren't quiet either.
Pros:
  • sound awesome
  • very easy install
  • Perfect Fit
Yes, I recommend this product.

Loud Exhaust

September 29, 2013
I needed a way to quiet my exhaust without major surgery. I have a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner with a 426 Hemi, with a 3 inch exhaust. This took the edge off the loud exhaust, alleviating the droning at cruising speed and saving my hearing and sanity. Great product, affordable and easy to use.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Quites open headers

September 29, 2013
I was amazed at the sound reduction that this simple insert made to my drag car. I inserted one of these spiral inserts into each of the 24 inch long 3" diameter pipes coming straight off the headers of a highly modified 351 Windsor. Wow! I couldn't believe it an affordable sound/noise reduction with no loss of ET or MPH at the track. Be sure to tack the insert in the extinsion pipe, otherwise it may vibrate out at the most inopertune time.
Cons:
  • needs to be tack welded into the extinsion pipe.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am using these in 3 1/2 inch stack pipes. Before I put these in I could not bare to stand next to my truck. It still sounds mean as heck but I don't need ear pluggs or worry about the police catching me for noise.
Pros:
  • Easy To Install
  • Great Sound

No these are not intended for street applications. This is a racing muffler and will provide very little noise reduction.

will this muffler fit in the lake style headers? They seem a little long for this application #9300550H. I'm sure i'll have to grind on the spirals some to make fit but if they're too long Can they be cut down and made shorter and still be affective? Thank you, Frank

Yes you can modify this to fit into a lake style header but don't expect too much of a muffling effect. These will only be a minor difference from open headers.

Exhaust tubing is always measured by the outside diameter. This auger muffler in a 3.5" version will measure 3.23" on the outside of the augers and has .83" inside diameter on the center pipe. The 3.5 version will work fine for you.

They seem alot less restrictive. We made minimal tune changes when going from open exhaust to the Auger inserts.

I would assume you are referring to a glass pack muffler. These auger mufflers will give equal or a little better performance compared to a glass pack type muffler but the auger will be much louder. We typically use these in racing applications where the rules state you must have a muffler but there are no decibel requirements.

You could use these on a street rod. They won’t be very quiet, however if you aren’t using any other mufflers. The Speedway Auger Style Muffler, part number: 91013984, was developed to allow drivers to pass a muffler rule that some classes require. The decibel reduction they provide is minimal. They need a through bolt or welding to keep them in place.
January 25, 2011
Mr Arm
I have them in my street rod truck. I would definitly say weld them in. They might rattle otherwise. You only need to tack weld them in like two spots for them to stay in place.

The best and easiest method is to weld it in place. It is possible drill a hole through the exhaust pipe as well as a corresponding hole through the center tube of this auger muffler and bolt it in place. The issue with this is you may have an exhaust leak around the bolt if not sealed up with high temp silicone.
