Pleased

September 21, 2015
I was recommened this product from a family member, this is the first time doing a complete electrical rewire. I'm restoring an 1982 Bronco (full size), so far everything has worked out, I was concerned about the power locks and windows on the new fuse block, however they have accommodations for both. My only negative is that I relocated the fuse block to inside the passengers glove box so it's protected, now the headlight, turn signal, and igntion wires are short. I ended up adding 2 feet of wire in between to compensate for the difference. I'm 80% completed and have had no other problems, thanks for the affordable, quality product. Would definitely purchase again!
Yes, I recommend this product.

disappointed

August 21, 2015
Found multiple mistakes in the instructions. The first harness I bought burned out the primary buss bar in the fuse panel when I turned on the turn signal during testing of the new harness after install. Speedway was great and sent me a replacement wiring harness. After installing it and testing out the system it burned out another fuse panel. A simple Maxi-Fuse would have prevented this and the problem was I should have followed my instincts instead of following the instructions which were wrong.
Cons:
  • No Fuse To Protect The Ha
  • Instructions Have Errors
No, I would not recommend this product.

Noting but JUNK!!!

August 09, 2015
I have done a couple of rebuilds came across this harness and looked good for the price. BOY was I wrong. I laid out the harness and labeled everything. Wired up the interior, and stereo, did the engine compartment and feed wire was low voltage to ignition, dash lights blink with turn signal, brake lights work on occasion, stereo had to be run from a hot terminal. headlight switch did not work as well as the foot one. I can't believe they even tested the harness before it goes in the box. I even tried to run new wire but that even failed. Thanks for a lot of time wasted.
No, I would not recommend this product.

The kit should have the adapters for any GM column wiring included.

On our wire harness 91064027 we include the GM ribbon plug if so needed. It can have the wires installed to match up with the GM style plug in many factory and aftermarket steering columns. The plug in is not installed so that the wires can be used on universal turn signal switches or other makes and models of columns. It is up to the installer to find wiring diagrams for the wires in their columns and our instructions detail which wire goes to what function.

This is a universal wiring harness. It will work but will require the installer to carefully layout his circuits and adjust them accordingly to his car. It is not a car specific harness.
February 23, 2015
EricM
Yes this harness can work in your application. Be sure to check the number of circuits that your car requires. If you have a car with several power accessories such as windows, door locks, etc. you may want to get a harness that has a larger fuze box for more circuits.

headlight switch knob The shaft of the headlight switch is about an inch too long for my dash. The obvious solution seems to be to remove the knob and trim the shaft. I removed the set screw from the knob, but it's impossible to get the knob off. The knob seems to be pressed onto the triangular-shaped shaft. I'm afraid I can't get it off without damaging the knob and/or shaft. Any suggestions?

I have had the same problem, and a little heat may free it up enough to get off without ruining it. They are on there though.

If the knob will not come off without damaging there are a couple of choices. We do have replacement billet knobs as one, and the other is to shorten the opposite end and reshape and also put the groove back into the shaft. We apologize but there is not a shorter shaft currently available.

It sounds like to have a short to ground Check for a pinched headlight wire Issues like you are describing point to a high current draw Disconnect the headlight bulbs Remove fuse Turn on Headlight switch Check across fuse spades with a test light or meter If there is 12V there is a short
November 03, 2014
EricM
If you are burning out light switches and also fuses the first issue would be to make sure you are hooking up the power wire to the correct terminal of the switch. If using the factory Ford switch it definitely requires the factory relay to take the current surge. If using the aftermarket switch like in the kit and you have lights with large current draws a relay should also be used. Also if all the lights are not properly grounded the system will be hunting a ground creating a lot of resistance causing heat as described. When you briefly turn on the lights are they all at full brightness and if not there is a lack of sufficient ground. If running a dimmer switch it needs to be checked also as these can short out internally blowing fuses and burning up light switches. Check the dimmer on both circuits to make sure it is ok.

Connect the brake light switch wires together and check for output from the wire for the "third Brake light" . I you have output on this wire double check your wiring to the "high" lead of the brake/turn signal. (this harness is designed to work with rear light bulbs in which the brake light and the turn signal filaments are one and the same) If you have bulbs which have a separate turn/brake bulb or filament the use the 3rd brake wire for only the brake lights and the turn signal wires for only turn signals I'm trying this on my car and I don't know if it will work 100% but it's worth a try
October 31, 2014
EricM
Lack of brake and turn is more likely to be in the switch or the wiring hook up. If you are running all LED then the clamp on switch will not accept LED flashers and will require load resistors. Check power to the brake light switch and then going out to make sure operational. Then confirm turn signal wiring as they have different codes compared to the harness. When you have the turn signal turned to the right check power out from your switch to the right front light and right rear light. Then do the same with the left. With the brake pedal compressed check to see if you have power out of the switch and up to the turn signal assembly. If when the turn signals are on the front works and not the back it leads back to the switch and/or turn signal switch.

I looked at Kwik 22 Circuit Second Generation Wire Harness as recommended.. wow was only $315.00 for the same product If I wanted to spend that much I would have bought a Painless I bought the Speedway for half the price It may not be the best but it worked great for my "hotrod" Bugeye Sprite with a SBC Anyone who needs an affordable harness which is backed by a great company....stay with the Speedway Good product and not over priced
