Simple, Sturdy, Nice Looking!

July 28, 2014
I really like this kit. It is a fairly simple install but did test me regarding trying to reach in the crossmember to add the washers and nuts (hint, you might need someone with smaller hands to help!) I did make a metal bar with holes 19" on center to bolt the frame mounts to prior to trying to get them positioned properly. This greatly simplifies getting them in place square and with the proper spacing. Since all of these tri-five cross members are a little unique, you have to just focus on getting the main frame mounts centered and square and then drill your holes. I drilled my crossmember holes a little oversize so that I could move these around a little more before tightening them down. Good value for the money. Nice strong set of mounts that look like they should be there when you are done.
Pros:
  • nicely made parts
  • Good Value
Cons:
  • Requires some fitting
  • requires light fab skills to install
Yes, I recommend this product.

simple & effective

April 30, 2014
after purchase & mock up of 2 other motor mount relocator systems, neither of which were used, I found this kit but was a bit reluctant to try a 3rd kit. By chance, I seen this kit installed on a 57 project, that belongs to a friend. I was hooked. Less than 24 hrs later this kit was on my bench. Looks good, looks natural. subtle appearance wont overpower the engine bay. easy install too !
Yes, I recommend this product.

Finally an idiot proof mounting system

September 26, 2013
So open the plain box. Admire the perfect welds, but a total lack of paint. No big deal, allow yourself enough time to powder coat or spray paint. The instructions are a bit spartan, an illustration showing 19" spread across the centerline of the crossmember. My advice is ignore the measurments. If you already have the engine in place, I learned you could go ahead and bolt the assembled mounts to the crane supported block, and slowly lower the the block into alignment above the crossmember. You can easily center the block. Lower the engine until almost supported by the frame, but do not lower completely, just enough to mark for holes. Make your drill marks after you have centered the engine, lift the engine and use an angle head drill to make the holes, I used a step drill for the top holes and made quick work of it, be sure the side face is flush against the frame metal. Install the top bolts and tighten, you will need a partner to back up the bolts to tighten. The side holes are drilled using a standard drill, installing these bolts are a one man job. Torque them to specs, and you are ready to go!!
Pros:
  • bolt on
  • high quality welded pieces
Cons:
  • un painted
  • instructions are vague
Yes, I recommend this product.

Best side mounts for '55 to '57 Chevy

September 26, 2013
The last motor I had in my '55 Nomad had the old front mounts. After sitting for over 40 years I am restoring it and repowering with a modern motor and transmission which requires modern side mounts. I never really liked the stock type with the mount bolted on the motor and held by the one bolt to the frame bracket. When I saw this setup I was hooked. With the bracket bolted onto the motor and then the large rubber biscuit between it and the frame bracket it looks to me to be fail-proof. It should have been like this from the factory!
Pros:
  • Good hardware
  • very nice quality w/ nice welds
Cons:
  • unpainted
Yes, I recommend this product.

Fit 55 with 454bbc

September 20, 2013
This kit was well engineered, easy bolt on. I was updating a bbc installation i had done about 25 yrs ago, replaced my home made front motor mounts with this kit. Was skeptical it would fit my 454 bbc. but it did. Had to replace headers with ones that were made for side motor mounts.
Yes, I recommend this product.

These motor mounts go in place of the OEM side mounts and should not interfere with a stock fuel pump.

Sorry this kit is for Chevy V8 engines only and will not fit your Oldsmobile engine. I do not have an engine mount kit for an Oldsmobile.

Part number 91018055 is a motor mount kit for both the small block and big block Chevies into a 55-57 Chevy passenger car. We apologize but there are no instructions available because of the variation of engine locations used by customers. There will be drilling involved in mounting the engine in your desired location.

Before removing front mounts, put side mounts in place and drill holes to use stock location for small block. If you are using a Big Block you will have to take measurements to know how far forward toward the radiator the holes will have to be drilled.

They may be used in stock or moved to new location. Weld existing hole with 1 1/8" plate and drill new 1 1/8" od hole to suit. Probably 3/4" forward to clear firewall with a HEI. I moved the hole 3/8" toward the passenger side to clear power steering box.

Part number 91018055 These mounts are for installing small blocks in approximately the stock location and with the frame design allows minimal movement forward from stock.

This kit is designed specifically for the Tri-5 Chevy cars and will not be a direct fit without modification and alteration when used in a truck. What we do have is part number 7204771 which is Chevy V8 into the 55-59 Chevy pickup. This utilizes the same cushion kit but the rest of the hardware and brackets is specific to truck applications.

These tri-5 motor mounts bolt in place of the 3 bolt OEM mount cushions on the side of the 1958 and up small block V8’s till the introduction of the LS1 engines. The frame brackets are designed as a bolt in package with the mentioned engines and for same frame location could use our LS1 adapter plates on an LS1 in conjunction with this kit if desired.

On your '55-'57 Chevy car, the front motor mounts are at the front of the block and the rear mount attaches to the bellhousing.  This works fine for original use, but makes it hard to swap in a different tranny or add belt driven accessories to the front of the engine.  This mount kit is the solution!

  • Uses common mounts.
  • No welding, but drilling is required.
