Q & A

What's in the Box

Speedway has produced these new forged steel reproduction car spindles. They have many features not available with GMs' original design! These spindles are the choice of professional builders because of their clean look, strength and ease of installation.

  • Made to direct mount Mustang II hubs and rotors plus many other later GM's
  • Kingpin geometry changed to work with current radial tire construction
Spindles also available in kit form with kingpins. Save when you purchase a complete kit!

Notes

  1. These spindles are designed after the 1949-1954 Chevy passenger car spindles. Pickup spindles are a square design.
  2. Chevy spindles are specifically designed for use on tube axles. A shorter, thicker axle stub makes this a slightly stronger spindle ideal for use with heavier street rods. Spindles require no machine work to accept modern Speedway Motors disc brakes.
  3. Steering arms may be mounted to the top or bottom of the spindle, making it a good choice for Gasser-style straight axle setups.

After trying to get my old spindles to fit good and work with the drop front axle and getting so frustrated that I made sailors blush... I gave in and bought a pair of these spindles... 30 minutes after getting them they were installed... Fit great and look sexy as can be on the front of my roller... Buy them... it is worth every cent and no machining involved!

how can I tell what is top or bottom ? I have a speedway gassed axle and it has a tiny bit of positive camber the way I have the spindles installed now and if I invert them it looks like it will have a bunch of negative camber . I'm still mocking up the front axle kit and would like have clarification as to which way is up on these spindles or at least a ballpark idea of what camber should be on a properly assembled speedway gasser axle kit with Chevy spindles . Thanks in advance !

If you have a slight amount of positive camber then you have the spindles installed correctly. When installed wrong you will have a large amount of negative camber like you have found.

Yes these are the same spindles as included in kit 91032100. The 91032100 kit includes the kingpins 91032123 and has the kingpin bushings installed and honed to fit so that all you need to do is assemble them onto the axle.

drum brake option? Is there a drum brake kit that fits these spindles? I have an old set from when it was still total performance and have spindle mount rims on right now. thinking about switching to polished or chromed drum brake set up. Any help appreciated.

The Total Performance spindle was a hybrid using the 49-54 part of the spindle with the kingpin boss and mounting ears, an econoline kingpin, and the candlestick or snout of the 37-48 Ford spindles. The only drum brake kit that will be close would be for the Ford spindles but would require a custom backing plate to mount to the Chevy backing plate bolt pattern.

When these spindles are used with the kingpin kit number 91032123 they will fit over our standard tube axles with 2 ¼" to 2 3/8” axle bosses. There is a thrust washer spacer used to make up the difference and some shim stock washers for the final fine tuning.

The 49-54 Chevy spindles are the same right or left. There is a top and bottom however and if installed upside down results in excessive negative camber.

Speedway part number 91032100. These Chevy spindles do NOT fit chevy truck axles or brakes. A chevy truck axle has a taller axle boss than a 49-54 Chevy car. The candlestick has also been machines to accept our disc brake kits. This modified Chevy spindle will fit our solid front axles, and our brake kits.
