What's in the Box

Info

These Speedway spindles are one piece, drop forged design constructed of high strength 4140 steel, which makes them superior to original components. These spindles are modeled after the 37-41 round-back design and use 37-41 Ford king pins.

These spindles fit Ford axles from 28-48. They can be used with period correct drum brakes or modern Speedway Motors disc brakes, but will not work with hubs from 28-36.

  • Uses 1937-1941 king pin kit
  • For Ford axles 1928-1948
  • Will not work with 1928-1936 Hubs
  • Includes king pin kit

Be sure to include our spindle nut kit (910616004) to properly install these spindles.

Includes forged spindles with king pins fit to spindles.

Application

Ford-style spindles are generally your best choice when using an original Ford axle or an aftermarket I-beam axle. This spindle is a reproduction version of the 1937-41 spindle. Ford used the same king pin dimensions and geometry on the 1928-48 axles, therefore you can use any 1937-48 Ford spindle on any 1928-48 car axle.

Excellent quality and fit

February 25, 2013
I purchased these spindles rather than cutting the arms off the original ones I've got. I had heard stories of aftermarket ones not being as strong as the old ones, and failures resulting in crashes. I liked that these were forged, and I've had good luck with other speedway components, so I decided to try them out. The car is driven, and driven hard, and these have held up great to everything I've thrown at them.
Pros:
  • Fit
  • Price
Yes, I recommend this product.

What bearing seal will fit the 1928-1948 spinbdles? I A National 1949 seal fits ID and OD, but bottoms out before allowing the lip of the seal to slide on the shoulder where it needs to ride for a proper fit. Any ideas or know of a thinner seal that will work? The National 1949 is aprox. 8 mm or .313 thick.

We will need to know what hub you are using this with to give you the correct bearing and seal for these spindles. When using a disc brake kit such as our 91031945 we use a bearing and seal adapter part number 91009301 which allows us to use seal 912S18562 and inner bearing 912TL68149 and race 912TL68110. When using the early Ford front hubs 91065450 we use seal 912S48190 and inner bearing 912T15118.

Camber is not adjustable, at least not easily. The axle would have to be heated and bent to change camber. This was a common practice many years ago on I beam axles but typically not required or suggested on a tube axle. The caster is adjusted differently depending upon the front suspension type. If you have a four bar or hair pin front suspension then you will shorten the upper connection and/or lengthen the lower connection to increase caster. From the sounds of your issue it is very possible that you either have spindles on upside down or the spindles are not correct for the axle. It is possible to install these Ford spindles on an axle that is made for '49 to '54 Chevy spindles but the camber will be wrong and there is no way to correct it.

Will these work on a 46 ford passenger car? I have a 46 ford car front end. I just bought a new 37-48 speedway drop axle and components, and was going to use my stock spindles. Now I've decided to get new spindles with kingpins. The problem I have is that my stock spindles are the 42-48 square back design. I'm not sure if these will match up to my hubs because these are the round back design. Are mine round on the inside and the holes match up and are just square on the outside once they are bolted on? I don't see the square back design listed on your site.

37-48 Ford spindles have the same dimensions for the snout where the bearings and seals ride. The bolt pattern for the backing plate or caliper bracket is also the same at 3 3/8” center to center both vertical and horizontally. The backing plates that bolt onto the spindles are different to accommodate the spindle and if using the 42-48 backing plates the round faced spindles will need to be ground somewhat flat on all four sides to fit in the recess of the backing plate.

This 28-48 Ford spindles number 91032104 will work on a half ton pickup but on the larger ¾ and up the king pin dimensions along with camber built in is different and will not work.

Will 1965 Mustang front Drums fit on these spindles?

The 1965 Mustang hubs and drums will NOT fit on the early 1928-48 Ford spindles. We do offer several disc brake kits or the early backing plates, hubs, bearings, and drums to utilize drum brakes if so desired.

These spindles work with Ford axles from 1928-1948. These axles do have a 2-3/8" axle boss in length. Spindles will not work with hubs from 1928-1936
