Complete and Easy

December 04, 2012
Spal products usually cost a little more money than competing products. But, in my experience, the old maxim ??_you get what you pay for??_ certainly holds true when deciding which products to buy when you are building a hot rod, cool custom or whatever automobile genre your project falls into. This kit is complete, that means you will not be running to NAPA seven times in one afternoon, and end up sPending more than this kit costs, trying to piece meal your fan relay system together. Save yourself some money as well as some out-loud-cussing and just buy this kit.
Pros:
  • complete and easy
Cons:
  • maybe too complete
Yes, I recommend this product.

For dual fans you need one relay per fan. A second relay such as 91064044 would be required.

On the temp senders to kick the fan on with AC fan a lot of times comes on with the turn on of the air. It is common to wire your electric fan so that it kicks on when the compressor is running. This would not require a temperature sender, you would just wire a fan relay into your existing AC wiring. On the engine fan it depends on what thermostat you are running. If you have a 195 thermostat there would be no need of the fan coming on before the hot coolant reaches the radiator and thus a 195 would be used. Some customers still use the 195 if they have a lower thermostat to allow the radiator to do some of the work before the fan kicks on. This way it lessens the run time of the fan.

Yes this kit will work with your Flexalite fan. The fan connector is different between the Spal and Flexalite fans but you can easily crimp a different connector on the wiring in this kit.

yes, use the largest spal fan that will fit your radiator
September 25, 2013
Jason
Spal kit number 91064028 has a choice of fan turn on at 185 or 195 and this makes the fan turn on once the coolant temperature in the engine gets to that temperature. Eliminates the need for a manual switch but the relay can be wired for over ride if so desired. The Sender will need to mount on the motor and depending on pipe thread size it comes in 3/8 and also with an adapter bushing.

no problem, be sure to use the same gauge wire as the wire on the fuse holder.

should not be a problem
May 23, 2013
EricM
If you are using a lead under the dash for the power source such as the fuse box having the fuse by it should not be a problem. With T buckets commonly having the battery under the car or in the pickup bed the main lead commonly comes from the starter for the fuse box. If you have a Speedway or Painless wiring harness there is normally a fused lead for the fan.

170° Thermostat = Which Part #? My truck has a 170° Thermostat. Does that mean I should get the kit that turns the fan (ON @ 185°)/(OFF @ 165°) or the kit that turns the fan (ON @ 195°)/(OFF @ 175°)?

it all depends on how hot you want your motor to run and how efficient your cooling system actually works---if its a regular street engine and not that high of compression----I would recommend the higher setting sender
April 25, 2013
Jason
Part number 91064028 has options for fan turn on and off and with the 170 degree thermostat the hot coolant will enter the radiator at 170 and in many cases may cool the engine to this temperature without the fan running. If you get the on at 185 and off at 165 when the coolant got to 185 the fan would come on to assist and this is what would be recommended.

no the sending unit will only turn on/off the fan, put a temp sending unit in the head of you flathead.

you need to go with a sendor in the engine--this will not give you a accurate reading of whats going on
April 22, 2013
Jason
On the Spal kit number 91064028 it includes a grounding style sender to trigger the relay and would not accommodate a gauge also. We do offer a fan control that will work with your temperature gauge under number 91064023 and with any fan a relay is recommended to take the current surge on start up.

should work--its measuring temperature---its dosn't know how many fans is running

You can order just one kit for your dual fan plus a separate relay for the second fan. So each fan should have its own relay but can share the rest of the kit
