What's in the Box

Finally an affordable distributor for you Ford guys! Basically this is a GM HEI distributor that fits 289-302 Fords. It is fully self-contained and requires only one wire to hook-up. No need for an MSD box. NOT compatible with computer controlled vehicles.

It uses the GM HEI cap, rotor and module, and includes mechanical and vacuum advances. Comes complete as shown.  Shaft diameter of .450".

Note: This distributor has an O-ring seal that has a VERY tight fit when installing for the first time. We suggest using a small amount of lithium grease or silicone lubricant on this seal to ease installation.

Notes

Note:  This distributor comes with a 'cast' drive gear. It will work with 'cast' cams (hydraulic or solid lifter), but is not recommended for 'roller' cams as unless a bronze gear is installed.

Great Replacement and Easy 1 wire operation

Great Distributor for those who want smooth operation at not a great cost. Replaced a Duraspark mess with a clean one wire operation. Keep in mind this fits tight. Prelube o ring and used a block of wood and hammer to drive down. Runs great, why choose anything else

I was going to replace the stock Ford electronic ignition on the Ford 302 I was installing in my '55 Ford pickup. since I only had the distributor (which looked like it needed a rebuild) I would also have several missing pieces to get the ignition up & running. a trip to the parts house, and the missing pieces added up to almost $175. then, I remembered seeing this HEI distributor for less money in your catalog. it was a "no brainer" to leave the parts store and go to my computer and order the HEI. I got a much cleaner installation with less wiring and clutter. dropped in the HEI, installed the plug wires, and it fired right off the first time.

I would not use this part in a high rpm situation. Not a very precision or balanced product I would reccomend "pro" series if that's what your looking for.

VERY COMPACT I PUT ONE ON A 302 WITH A ELDERBROCK INTAKE, HAD TO GRIND A LITTLE OFF THE INTAKE TO MAKE IT FIT.BUT IT WORKS GREAT.

Yes this is a GM HEI type distributor but is made to fit a 289 or 302 Ford engine. It is a simple one wire hookup (two wires if you have a tach) and has a coil integrated into the distributor.

This GM style HEI distributor for the small block Ford have a 5” diameter cap in place of the smaller points style cap and may have interference if you have an inboard mount A/C compressor. You can verify clearance by comparison to your existing cap.

No this distributor will not fit the 289-302 three 2 barrel intake. The large cap Ford distributor will not fit either. You will need a small cap distributor such as 44713701 or 5478352.

With the SBF HEI distributor there are clearance issues on some of the large and tall intake runners. Also the intake design with multiple carbs could likely have clearance issue. Intake 91011275 or 3252121 work fine without clearance issues.

Yes that will work great. These distributors are made to be used with an alternator in the system. Nearly all 12 volt alternators are regulated at around 14 to 14.5 volts.

This will fit all 289 and 302 engines up until the late 80's or early 90's when they changed to a roller camshaft. This will fit your 1965 302 engine but keep in mind that you will need the long style oil pump drive shaft. If your engine still has the stock "short style" drive shaft it will need changed. Part number 91550110 is the correct one to use with this distributor.

The coil is integrated into the distributor cap so it will not be necessary to have a coil mounted anywhere else on the vehicle.

Wires feature straight boots with 90 degree boots on the ignition end. 

The MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire is "the" performance wire. Engineered from the inside out, the 8.5 offers everything you have ever wanted in a wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference! In a single 12 inch of low resistance wire there is only 40-50 ohms of resistance! That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire.

MSD uses a copper alloy conductor due to its great voltage carrying capabilities. The low resistance results in less loss in spark energy so more reaches the spark plug. The conductor is wound extremely tight around a special center core. There is over 40 ft of conductor wrapped into a 1 ft of plug wire. This winding procedure, with a ferro-magnetic impregnated center core, produces an extremely effective Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) "choke".
