What's in the Box

Info

Mounts GM "Delco" style alternators beside oil pan at left front corner of your small block Chevy V8. Works with the short ('55-'68) water pump. Includes bracket and spacer.

Note: Watch for steering box clearance!

Notes

  1. Mounts alternator down beside oil pan, using early front motor mount holes.
  2. This bracket will NOT work with some of Speedway's T-bucket kits becauseit interferes with the Vega steering box.

be careful of clearance

First off, it only fits old style Delco alternators. not the newer style I had. so I got a old one. Then it wouldn't clear the harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer was stock. so I had to re engineer mine. my block was a mid 80s so maybe this kit is for older blocks. idk just be careful

Not for Chevy II

The product is good, the price was great. I like the fact that is was NOT chrome! But it won't fit a 62-65 Chevy II/Nova the cross member is in the way. I will use it on another project.

This is a sturdy well built piece, but it won't work if you are using a Speedway Model A frame and Vega steering box mounted in the traditional locations.

This bracket is well made and finished. I had to cut the top hole off,to get a standard GM 1-wire alt. to fit and have adjustment for the belt. The top of the bracket would hit the timing cover,and the alt.,was hitting the oil pan. After triming the top hole(a 5 min.job)it worked fine,and is a way better bracket than the other lower,alt. bracket.

Specific year GM Delco style alternators My alternator is too big or the bracket is too thick. Is this because I have the wrong GM alternator? What years are "Delco" style? Or do I need to do some grinding and filing for my alternator to work?

Most alternators have the same basic case except for the high output over 100 amp. The difference comes in the mounting points and many times the same part number will have different mounting dimensions as far as the thickness is concerned and the other location is the wiring hook up terminals. It is not uncommon to have to grind on the casting to get the alternator back far enough or to have to space the alternator forward.

This small block alternator bracket is 5.40" in width and 9.125" tall. Center of top mount hole to center of adjusting slot is 8.125". Slot width is .35"

i purchased part # 916-67900. the chrome unit and eyeballin it with a tape it appears to be 3/16 of an inch thick. under a 1/4" which i think should be .250. seems to be plenty sturdy unless your doin some serious rock crawlin/off roadin.

Yes it is! With the design of the bracket it must be extra stout to support the alternator and belt tension from just those two engine mounting bolts.

will this fit an 04 z71 4x4 avalanche 1500 and work for adding a second alternator? Already custom made a dual alt bracket next to original but looking to add a 3rd alt and saw this...a little cutting or grinding is not an issue for me if it will work?

This is not made to fit the engine in your 2004 Avalanche but you may be able to use this as a starting point when building a custom bracket.

What is the outboard dimension of the bracket when using the alternate mounting hole? The illustration doesn't show how wide the mounting bracket would be when using the alternate mounting hole. I may have a clearance problem but I'm not sure. Thanks, Bob

Using the alternate mounting hole will increase the room requirement by 1/2".
