The Chevrolet HEI Distributor is a favorite for muscle cars, street rods and even circle track racers. The integrated coil keeps underhood wiring clean, and for race cars, the idea of running one wire to the distributor keeps things simple. However, when it comes to performance, the stock HEI falls short. What makes or breaks a plug wire is not only how well the wire is insulated, but how low of resistance the center core has. These assembled wire sets test 40-50 ohms per foot, while most others test 1500 ohms per foot.

These low resistance spark plug wires are designed for Small Block Chevys with HEI and are routed under the headers.

The Soft Touch Rev Control, PN 8728, is designed to be used on standard points ignition or inductive ignition systems. This means that the PN 8728 can be installed on engines with a GM HEI Ignition, Ford or Chrysler electronic ignition, any standard breaker points systems or even with an MSD 5 or Blaster Ignition (non-CD ignitions). The RPM Limiter is adjusted with plug-in modules and is supplied with 6,000, 7,000 and 8,000 rpm modules. When the engine reaches your set rpm, the Soft Touch circuitry kicks in and drops the spark to certain cylinders. This rpm limiter produces very accurate and smooth, backfire-free rev limits.

  • Can be used on 4, 6 or 8-cylinder engines with inductive ignitions

            Speedway Motors offers this billet aluminum electronic distributor for the fabulous '32-'41 Flathead Ford V8 with the 3-bolt mount. This distributor is a "ready-to-run" unit that does not require a control box. 

We suggest a 12v coil 447-45001 (chrome) or 447-45011 (black) to be used with this distributor. We also suggest our spark plug wire set 910-64200.

    We started with black, 7mm suppressive core wire that will go through your looms. The 90° black plug boots are installed but you have to install the straight or 90° distributor ends. We even put in enough wire to place your coil on the firewall. Comes with straight boots for the distributor end of the plug wire. Black only.

    Two sets of boots/terminals are included, one set for conventional socket-type caps and one set for HEI type caps. The set includes 9 cables, the longest being 51" and the shortest being 24". Use eight for the plugs, one for the coil.

    MSD's Non-Magnetic Pick-Ups are engineered for extreme applications. In fact, this Pick-Up was designed and tested on 300+ top fuel dragsters! To live up to MSD's demading expectations in these extreme applications, MSD designed and built the Pick-Up in-house. That way, they can control every aspcet of the assembly and quality. 

    Each Pick-Up is hand wound on a special bobbin and terminated to MSD's tinned conductor, teflon jacketed wiring. These wires are also routed through a strain relief for protection. This assembly is then installed into the precision housing and is potted with a fracture resistant epoxy compound. To ensure that the windings are entirely incased in epoxy, the Pick-Ups undergo a vacuum procedure to remove any air inside the housing. All of these procedures are necessary to product the strongest, most reliable non-magnetic Pick-Up avaiable. 

    The Non-Magnetic Pick-Ups are available in two housing sizes. The 3/4" model is used with MSD’s Flying Magnet Crank Trigger Kits. The 3/8" diameter Pick-Ups are used with MSD’s Sprint Car Crank Trigger systems as well as the professional racing kits from RCD and PSI.

    High-compression drag race engines require “indexing” of spark plugs to prevent contact between piston dome and ground wire of the spark plugs. Moroso’s indexer, designed for both flat and taper-seat 14mm spark plugs, enables selection of spark plugs that will not make such contact. Once a given plug is selected (placed in a cylinder head and found to have the correct ground wire position), it is placed in the Moroso Plug Indexer and the position of the ground electrode marked on the black anodized surface. Marking provides a reference for checking other plugs to be used in the same cylinder.

    The cap and rotor of any ignition system must be considered mainte­nance items. Just as you change the oil and filter of your car, you should always replace the cap and rotor as a set. To make things easy, we now offer these Cap and Rotor Replacement Kits.

    This MSD Cap (MSD #84335) fits all of the MSD Distributors that use the GM Socket sytle cap (MSD #8437). It will also fit GM Distributors that use a "window" style cap. 

    Cap MSD# 8433:

    • DuPont Rynite material
    • Spark plug-style terminals with improved locking connection
    • Optional wire retainer with caps to lock the wires in place
    • HEI-Type terminals, rather than socket-type
    • Can be used in place of the older design

    Rotor MSD# 8467:

                Finally an affordable distributor for you Ford guys! Basically this is a GM HEI distributor that fits 289-302 Fords. It is fully self-contained and requires only one wire to hook-up. No need for an MSD box. NOT compatible with computer controlled vehicles.

    It uses the GM HEI cap, rotor and module, and includes mechanical and vacuum advances. Comes complete as shown.  Shaft diameter of .450".

    Note: This distributor has an O-ring seal that has a VERY tight fit when installing for the first time. We suggest using a small amount of lithium grease or silicone lubricant on this seal to ease installation.

    The problem with replacement magneto coils (also known as transformers) is that with time they either break, leak or can't be mounted the way you want. This Joe Hunt coil does not have liquid in it to leak, which allows it to be mounted in any position. Use with Vertex OXC and Mallory Super Mags.
