Great for TRACTORS TOO !

September 09, 2010
I used it backwards in a Garden Tractor to make it steer easier. Worked fantastic ! One issue though is that the female splines they sell with it fit a little sloppy onto the stub ends, but I was able to shim it by putting some .004 brass shim stock on the backside of the tightening bolt. This is more of an issue here because unlike a car, this has a very short steering shaft and any out of round action can bind things up. LOVE IT.
Pros:
  • Compact
  • Tight
  • Well Built - I opened it
Yes, I recommend this product.

No this will not make your steering easier. Your best bet would be to change to a power steering box.

It may be able to be adapted to your Mitsubishi but we have never used it on that application before so you will have to first make sure it will fit. You vehicle will need to have a straight section of steering shaft between the column and the steering box at least 12" long in order to install this quickener. You will have to cut a portion of that shaft out and weld on couplers or U-joints to it which have 3/4"-36 spline to fit this quickener. We offer coupler 91032281-PLN that work well if you have 3/4" OD steering shaft. You will also need to weld a bracket to the chassis of the vehicle to bolt this quickener to.

The Speedway small body steering quickner is universal design, not made for any specific application. It measures 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 8" overall length and has 3/4" 36-spline. Sorry, we have no information regarding fitment for the Ford Escort

Sorry, we do not offer parts to convert the speedway steering quickner to a 1.5 ratio. We do offer part #91032203 that is 1.5 ratio. This is a Howe racing part.

It is not recommended to put the steering quickner right up by the steering wheel. For best performance this should be mounted on motor side of firewall.

Typically there will be a coupler or U-joint with a length of shaft supported by a bearing between the quickener and the steering wheel. I would not recommend mounting the steering wheel directly at the end of the quickener due to that placing a high amount of side load on the bearings of the quickener which it was not designed for.

Yes this is a 2:1 quickener so the steering wheel movement required will be cut in half but the effort to turn the wheel will be doubled.
