poor quality workmanship

June 23, 2013
Cover threaded crooked, only after a lot of machine work was I able to make them work. If it where not for them coming on a weekend I would have sent them back. Looked good and worked great after the re-threading. I am sure that all of them are not like the pair I got.
No, I would not recommend this product.

Clever idea and beautiful!

October 14, 2011
Very nice addition to the Stainless Steel Radiator Support Rods they sell. Covers the exposed threads for a very clean look. Only bad thing is that I had to run a tap through the nuts that went on the radiator end. Threads were binding. Easy fix. Otherwise PERFECT! Glad I bought them!
Pros:
  • Last forever
  • Unique design
  • Stainless Steel
Yes, I recommend this product.

The radiator should have a bracket mounted the the back side of it that allows the rods to drop into slots and be pinched by either two nuts on that end of the rod , or one nut and the associated ( long ) thread cover.

The thread covers referenced simply hide the threads on the radiator support rods. At the firewall there are two brackets, one per side that retain the support rods and on the radiator end the radiators have a bracket welded or soldered in place at the top center of the tank. You can view part number 91734232 and enlarge the photo to visually see the bracket with the two slots for the support rods. The bracket is on the radiator and NOT the shell. This bracket is not available thru Speedway separately as it comes on the radiators that use the support rods. If using a radiator for a different application you would need to contact the radiator suppliers such as Walker or Griffin for availability.

Why are there two different thread sizes? Isn't the whole support rod 3/8"? Why the 5/16" thread? Don't these fit over the ends of a 3/8" stainless rod?

The larger diameter, shorter length thread cover has to slip over the threaded (radiator) end while the smaller diameter, longer length end is threaded onto the radiator end. This method allows a more seamless appearance when bolted up.

The thread covers include two different sizes because the radiator support rods are 5/16" on the radiator end, and 3/8" on the bracket end.
