Q & A

What's in the Box

These PowerForce series balancers from Professional Products are available in 28 oz. or 50 oz. balance. They both measure 6.4" in diameter, are 3" in total length, and are marked to 40 degrees at three locations. Plus, they feature both 3 and 4 bolt pulley holes, which allows the use of late model serpentine drive systems on early engines if desired. Counter weight is removable for zero balanced cranks. Fits most 260/289/302/351W/5.0L Ford engines.  6500 RPM max limit.

See Notes tab for spacer requirements.

28 oz. Balancer (S/B Ford V8 1963-80)

  • Matches O.D. and thickness of the stock early (1963-69) dampers
  • Counterbalance weight matches the stock 28 ounce inches
  • Overall balance specifications are held tighter than the original O.E. tolerances
  • Dual Bolt Pattern - both the "early" 3-bolt and the "late" 4-bolt patterns
  • Removeable Counterweight - if building a neutral balance engine simply remove the bolt-in counterweight on the back of the damper

50 oz. Balancer (S/B Ford V8 1981-95)

  • Made to the early short length of 3" - allows the use of a late 5.0L engine with a 50 oz. in. damper to be used in an early chassis where front clearance is at a minimum
  • To fit in late vehicles, use spacers to provide the correct front pulley alignment
  • Dual Bolt Pattern - both the "early" 3-bolt and the "late" 4-bolt patterns
  • Plastic insert shown in photos can be used to center 3-bolt pulleys with a female pilot, or it can be removed to accept 3-bolt pulleys with a male pilot
  • Very versatile and can be used on many different Ford engines

910-15365 Instructions (PDF)

Application

91015366 - This spacer must be used when replacing an original balancer that is 3-3/8" long which were typically found on '79 and earlier 351W engines.

91015367 - This spacer must be used when replacing an original balancer that is 4" long which were typically found on '80 and later 351W, '80 and earlier 302, and late model 5.0L engines with some triming of spacer required on 5.0L engines.

91015368 - This spacer must be used when replacing an original balancer that is 3-7/8" long which were typically found on '80 and earlier 351W Ford racing HO engines or '80 and later 351W, 302, or 5.0L engines using the Ford Racing .917" crank sprocket.

Notes

This engine family used 1 of 5 common length balancers, use the following information to determine your application needed. They are made to early style length of 3" to allow their use in tight applications, but adding on with a spacer for pulleys listed below, you can fit almost any car and pulley combo. These spacers are unique and can only be used with the new balancers shown here. Pulley spacers listed are a 4 bolt design, but can be redrilled for the 3 bolt arrangement.

  • 3" long - no pulley spacer required, white spacer adaptor ring can be removed from balancer
  • 3-3/16" long - limited applications, use 91015366 (#81006) spacer and machine .090" off of 3 surfaces
  • 3-3/8" long - use 91015366 (#81006) spacer
  • 3-7/8" long - use 91015368 (#81008) spacer
  • 4" long - use 91015367 (#81007) spacer

Perfect balancer for my 5.0HO Ford swap

July 09, 2014
I purchased this balancer to convert my '68 mustang to a late model 5.0HO block. It has a 50oz balance with the correct bolt pattern for my early style pulleys. Fit and finish is excellent, and the timing marks lined up exactly with the early style pointer.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is a great product and a must have

March 17, 2011
This is a must have if you are doing a SBF swap since these balancers are the early 65-69 short length by using the early water pump you can gain almost 3" of clearance over the '70 and later pumps & balancers.Chrome V-belt pulley sets are available under$80 that use the 3 bolt pattern since these also have 3 different sets of timing marks so any 289-to 5.0 will be right on and the 28 & 50 oz balance available will make the swap a no-brainer.
Pros:
  • Improves Engine Efficiency
  • Easy To Install
Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros:
  • Painted timing marks
  • Great low price
  • 3 4 bolt hole setup
Yes, I recommend this product.

Ford does not specify manual or automatic on the harmonic balancers. The 28 oz. is common to the ’80 and older whereas the 50 oz is common to the 81 and newer. After that information there are specific spacers for different years of applications for proper alignment of the pulleys. These spacers are listed on our website and also in our catalog with engine year necessitating their use.

I just finished a 1985 T5 swap in my '65 mustang. I used the flywheel from the '85 5.0 and as your probably already thinking, yes, I have a bad vibration. Will this 50 oz harmonic balancer fit my early model 302 crankshaft?

If you have an early 28oz counter balance crank it needs to have a 28 oz flywheel and balancer.
