What's in the Box

The 7.5 inch Powertrax Traction System is the latest design in traction adding differential technology. It combines the smooth operation of a limited-slip differential, with the traction performance of a locking differential. A precise synchronization mechanism eliminates the ratcheting sounds typical of other locking differentials. Special gear and spring design reduce the backlash and therefore driveline windup. An ultra-strength alloy material is used throughout, which is 67% stronger than titanium.

Installation is simple because no ring and pinion set-up is required. In addition, no special tools or oils are needed (installs in about one hour). Step by step model specific instructions are provided with every kit.

The Locking Differential model that you specify is an excellent item for the street. They have an ingenious mechanism for locking the axles to each other that is both simple and effective. This model is not as harsh as something like a Detroit Locker, but it is certainly more aggressive than the clutch-type units that some people offer. I would not recommend the unit in a Pro Street/large, sticky tire configuration (the 10-bolt GM rear axle isn’t well suited to that situation in the first place), particularly if you have a high-stall torque converter or a manual transmission, but in more modest configurations they have proven to be quite reliable. These locking differentials from Powertrax are specific to the car rear differentials from 1975 thru 1995 and 26 tooth. They will not work in the later S10 rear ends and you will need to contact Powertrax direct for availability and nearest vendor.

Part number: 91028019 does not require a limited slip differential. This unit will give you limited slip capability during cornering and full locked differential performance in straight line acceleration.
