What's in the Box

If you like traditional looks and reliable, modern performance, you’ll love this cool Flathead 1-wire alternator. It has the look of an original generator, but is really a 12-volt, negative-ground alternator that produces 60 amps at idle and 75 amps going down the road. This model is designed to fit 1949-1953 Ford & Mercury Cars and 1948-1953 Ford Trucks with Flathead V8s and features a simple one-wire hookup.

We offer this one wire alternator in black painted or polished aluminum, and both include stock-appearing mounting brackets (the stock fan carrier bolts to that bracket) and pulleys that accept wide 5/8” belts.

Warranties

Powermaster's warranty is one year from the date of purchase on all
street rod components, and 90 days for any component use for an off road or race application.  

Powermaster will provide all warranty service and technical support
regarding warranty claims and inquiries directly to the purchaser to
resolve any warranty claims or necessary technical support for warranty
resolution.  Speedway Motors is not able to service, warranty, or
replace any unit that has a warranty consideration.  As such, the
component or components are to be returned to Powermaster and not to

easy to replace the old generator but you need to convert to a 12 negative ground (which you should do anyways)

Polished Powergen Alternator 12 Volt

Purchased this Powergen Alternator several years ago. Have had absolutely no problems with it at all. Most people don't even know its an alternator, and not a generator. Looks like a chromed stock generator. Other an working perfectly, I like the way it keeps the stock appearance to the engine compartment. Being 12 Volts also helps giving me brighter lights and faster starts. This is the only way to go. SpeedWay Motors has them in stock for quick delivery. Buy with confidence.

My 12v generator went out so I bought this. This provides worry free charging and fit on my 8BA with Edmunds 2 carb intake. No modifications necessary. Would def. tell anyone that is messing with an old generator to convert. See you later voltage regulator.

The post with the red insulator around it is the charge wire connection. Connect a 10 gauge or larger wire from this post to the positive post of the battery. Other than that you only need a ground wire from one of the cover bolts to your chassis. Here are the instructions for reference: http://static.speedwaymotors.com/pdf/910-67165.pdf

You will not have to keep the Fifty positive ground with this Powergen Alternator. I have one in my 1950 Ford that has been completely re-wired 12 Volt, using a Hay Wire wiring kit. Everything works just fine. Really like this alternator, Mine is the polished model. Looks good, works better then the old generator did for sure. SpeedWay has them in stock for quick delivery.

This alternator is 12 volt negative ground and simplest approach would be conversion to negative ground when rewiring the complete car. If you require 6 volt positive ground we offer part number 91067174.

This Powergen mounts in the center of the engine in stock location. It would be possible to remove the generator from the mounting bracket and use the appropriate offset bracket for your intake. We offer an Offenhauser bracket number 5601095 and also an Edelbrock that works with Edelbrock manifolds and most others under part number 3251146.

This Powergen comes with the mounting bracket and pulley. I have one on my 1950 Ford 2 door sedan. Have used for several years now without any problems at all. When installed it will looks stock, but works much better.

A stock appearing mounting bracket is included with each Powergen. The alternator includes a pulley for 5/8" belts. If you are using a 3/8" belt system, you will need to order pulley 91067178 in addition to your Powergen.

With this one wire Powergen there is no need for the voltage regulator. The one wire goes to the battery positive or the to the battery cable post of the starter solenoid. This is for a negative ground system, you will need to get the positive ground version if you have not converted to 12 volt negative ground.
