What's in the Box

Info

Replace those sloppy worn out tie rods with our new replacements. Original equipment on 1948-1964 Ford half-ton pickups, but these tie rod ends can be used for multiple applications other than Ford trucks. Not for use with flat steering arms. Use only with Ford type steering arms with a tapered hole. Not normally used with Chevy spindles.

Chevy flat plate steering arms are not thick enough to support a standard tie rod end or are they tapered. Part number 91632019 or 91632018 are the Chevy upper arms we offer and are designed to work with spherical rod ends or heims such as number 1750306 and will not work with the Ford outer tie rod ends such as number 91002919 or 91002909.

The taper is correct on part number 91002909 to match the 7 degree taper in the Mustang II spindles. However, the diameter may be an issue as the Pickup runs a larger diameter stud at .630. The spindles could be reamed with a 7 degree reamer to the desired size if so desired.

Is this the correct tie rod end to use with original a '37-48 Ford passenger car spindles?

Is this the correct tie rod end to use with original a '37-48 Ford passenger car spindles?

This would be the correct tie rod end for the 37-48 Ford spindles. It has 7 degree taper to match the steering arms and this is the right hand thread version and part number 91002919 would be the left hand thread version.

We offer reamer 91089411 which works well to ream for these tie rod ends. If you have flat plate steering arms such as 91632031 then the material will be too thin to ream them for a tie rod end like this. You would need to weld a thicker boss onto the steering arms first, then ream them.

Yes this one is greaseable also. I don't believe this one had the fitting installed when the picture was taken.

(1)Your specs show 2.42" for the shank. Usually, this is measured from the end of the shank to the center of the grease fitting. Is that how you measured it? I suppose I could cut the shank if I had to. (2) On the stud, there are 3 important measurements. On the large end of the tapered stud I am looking for .63", and on the small end of the tapered stud I am looking for .50", and for the stud end threads, I am looking for 1/2" (don't care if metric or SAE or thread pitch).

On the Ford tie rod ends 91002909 the stud is .625 on the big end of the taper and .625 on the small end and does have 1/2" threads. On the shank the length to the middle of the zerk is 3.17"
