This is the part you need if you are installing a T-Bird rack on a street rod after market crossmember. (I used an A1 Cardone Part # 22-203F 1 pc. bushing) I installed this on a TCI crossmember on the left side only. It extends the pivot point 2 inches and maintains the correct geometry. Since you only need one you'll have one for your next project or go in with a friend and split the set up.
Ordered the entire Mustang II kit for Ford F1, but the extension that is needed wasn't part of the kit. For the truck one must have the extension. I only found out when I was ready to install and I ran out of unopened boxes. Speedway was good though and paid for the freight.

I bought this part for use in a 1956 F100 crossmember. I like to know what outer tie rods (stock or longer) i must buy for use with this part.

These inner tie rod extensions fit between the inner shaft of the rack and the pivot where the tie rod attaches. It moves the pivot out to align with the pivot on the lower control arm or the imaginary line between the upper pivot and the lower control arm pivot. In doing so it leaves the tie rod in plane with the lower control arm and preserves correct steering geometry. The standard outer tie rod ends as comes with the complete IFS kit will work properly and you will NOT have to use the longer outer tie rod ends. Standard track width on a Mustang II is 56.5 and with the wider cross member of the 53-56 ford the track width increases to 60.5. 11" brakes increase the track width an additional 1" for the Ford pattern and 2" for the Chevy pattern.

Is there any provision to keep this extension from unscrewing off the rack shaft? I was hoping for a lock nut, pin or other safety locking devise.

Part number 91034345 The manual version does NOT have the holes for the roll pins and Loctite is recommended. The power version is similar to the OEM and has 3 holes and included drift or roll pins for retention.
