What's in the Box

Info

You get brand new stamped steel upper and lower control arms with polyurethane bushings, new spindles, new black stock-type springs, new shocks, new manual rack & pinion with bushings or remanufactured power rack & pinion with bushings, and an 11" brake kit featuring GM Metric-style calipers and rubber hoses, with your choice of 5 x 4-1/2" or 5 x 4-3/4" bolt patterns.

  • Works with most Speedway and Heidts crossmembers (be sure to check control arm correspondence when choosing crossmember for your vehicle)
  • These kits are compatible with your application based on which crossmember you have.
  • Kit Includes:
    • New stamped steel upper and lower control arms with polyurethane bushings
    • New spindles
    • New black stock-type springs
    • New shocks
    • Rack and Pinion with bushings and tie rods
    • 11" brake kit with GM calipers
  1. Crossmember NOT included - Add proper crossmember to complete kit.

Spring Rate Chart (Link)

WARNING: To offer our customers a better range of spring rates, the springs included in this kit are now black in color, please note that they are no longer chrome plated.

Note: These IFS kits will require use of strut rods and brackets for the lower control arms.  These kits will work with our replacement strut rod (91034315) and brackets (91034358).  If using the stock style control arms we suggest using the tubular strut rod number (91034322) for additional clearance and better suspension geometry.

Note: Additional items may be needed to complete installation.  You may want to include our Mustang II ride height adjusters (91034444) for installation with these IFS kits to fine tune your final ride height up to 2".

Note:  If using these kits with Speedway or Heidts crossmembers for 1948-1956 Ford Pickups, 1955-1959 Chevy Pickups, or universal crossmembers for 27-1/2" - 33-1/2" frame widths, you will be required to purchase 2" Inner Tie Rod Extensions (91034345) or (91034346).

Item Details

Must include Mustang II crossmember for complete installation (sold separately)

Notes

Note: Applications where the vehicle has fenders that mount directly on top of the frame, the fenders will require extensive modification to allow clearance for the upper cross member section.

Note: These kits require the purchase of a Mustang II crossmember (sold separately).  Many of our Speedway and Heidts brand crossmembers will work with Manual Rack and Pinion Steering ONLY.  When purchasing our crossmembers, be sure to look for their correspondence with power racks if selecting a power rack with our Mustang II IFS kits.  With all Mustang II aftermarket crossmembers, spacers and longer bolts must be used with the later (Fox-body) power rack (spacers included).

Finding the right control arms means finding the correct track width:Our Mustang II kits feature 11" rotors.  Track width, which is hub face to hub face where the wheels bolt on, will be 57.5". Wheel and tire combination and customer preference determine whether to use the
standard control arms or the 5/8" narrower. The narrower control arms reduce the track with by a total of 1.25".  See the link below for
various track widths with different options.

Great improvement in ride, but...

September 21, 2012
Replaced coil-overs on front of my 34 Chev with this kit. Handling and ride are greatly improved, bigger brakes, too. I was dissapointed that the finish on the upper a-arms flaked off easily, revealing more than surface rust underneath. Othervise, it was almost a bolt-in installation. PS: In was sent plain shocks, although it was advertised as including chromed shocks.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Merchant Response:

This kit does include chrome finish shocks, however they were out of stock at the time this customer placed his order, so a member of our staff subbed in the plain finish shocks into the kit (without notifying the customer of the change). After receiving this feedback, Speedway Customer Service promptly contacted this customer and refunded him the difference between the plain and chrome shocks in addition to refunding him for an extra part that was sold to him which was already included in the kit. We sincerely apologize for the mix-up.

A Lincoln Mark VI has a stock independent front suspension. You would be best suited rebuilding the stock suspension with new or upgraded components.

In addition to the OEM style Mustang II suspension you will also need the cross member for your 52 Chevy car which is part number 91034427 which is a weld in cross member kit. The hub to hub kit comes with manual or power rack, choice of spring rate, and also choice of bolt pattern for the wheels. It is complete hub face to hub face where the wheels will bolt on. You will also need to modify your existing steering column or purchase an aftermarket steering column and also a U-joint at the column, a U-joint at the rack, and the necessary length of intermediate shaft to mate the two together. For a cleaner more modern kit we offer part number 91034202 which does not make use of the strut rods and bushings as used on the OEM style.

The half ton has different dimensions than the one ton trucks and if wanting to lower your F350 first you will need to get the outside to outside frame dimension where the Mustang II cross member will center. If it is within 33 ½” our universal cross member number 413202 would fill the needs and could be used with any of the hub to hub kits such as part number 91034202 which would also require the inner tie rod extensions number 91034346 for manual rack or 91034345-pow for power racks. On the rear we do not offer a suspension kit and fabrication on the part of the installer would be required to install a half ton kit such as part number 91041248 which is a parallel leaf kit for the half ton pickups and netting 4” drop as compared to OEM dimensioned new springs.

When upgrading to a Mustang II suspension on the early Mustangs you will first need the cross member number 91034457 and the inner fender panels number 91034450. On the complete hub to hub kit for ease of installation we recommend the tubular control arm version number 91034203 with dropped spindles to achieve standard ride height.

Part number 91034100 This independent front suspension kit is one of the commonly used upgrades on todays hot rods. The stamped control arm kits are the most economical but still require the strut rods running from the lower control arm to the frame. For better suspension, handling, and to eliminate the consumable strut rod bushings we recommend the tubular equivalent under part number 91034202. This in conjunction with the required cross member number 91034446 will update your 41 Chevy to modern day suspension.

Part # 91034100 This basic kit utilizes stamped control arms and also uses the stock style strut rods running from the lower control arm back to the frame. We recommend the next step up to the tubular version under part number 91034202 which is a strut free suspension. Available with manual or power rack, choice of spring rate, and choice of bolt pattern for the wheels. In addition you will need the appropriate cross member and we offer a weld in version under part number 91034448 or a bolt in under part number 91044754. Bolt in motor mounts are also available for the bolt in cross member under part number 91054754 and for the weld in cross member we suggest the weld in mounts number 91018040.

For a cleaner installation we recommend the tubular control arms that work without the strut rods going back to the frame and also frees up the suspension and eliminates the consumable strut rod bushings. You will need a cross member and will need to measure outside to outside of the frame in the area of the front suspension. Cross member number 413201 and 413202 are the universal options depending on frame width. From that point on the hub to hub kit such as number 91034202 with springs and shocks, 91034206 with coil overs, or 91034215 with air ride and Wilwood brakes would be used and dictated by personal preference. Hook up to the steering column would be the only other components needed other than plumbing to the included brake flex lines. Choice of manual or power rack, bolt pattern for the wheels, and spring rate if necessary are included options.

This Mustang II front end kit utilizes the economical stamped upper and lower control arms and still requires the use of the included strut rods from the lower control arm back to the frame. A cleaner and better functioning front end would be the upgrade to the tubular arm kit such as number 91034202 or 91091034206 which are strut free. Coil overs are an option of personal preference. The misconception that you can raise and lower the truck easily with coiled overs is not fact. The shocks need to be centered in stroke at ride height and only have about 31/4” of stroke. In addition to the hub to hub kit you will also need the cross member such as number 91034430. The frame width of your truck requires the inner rack extensions to enable proper steering geometry. This also increases the track width by two inches per side and depending on the wheel and tire combination and with the design of the truck in question the 5/8” narrower control arms should not be needed. Again there are some variables and personal preference plays a part in the control arm choice.
