Q & A

What's in the Box

It is common to use an early GM power steering pump with a Mustang II power rack and pinion. Our Mustang II/GM pump power steering hose assemblies are an inexpensive alternative to the more costly stainless steel braided hose kits. The return hose included in this kit will normally need to be cut to length.

This has an adapter to allow it to work with both metric O-ring and standard inverted flare threads on the power steering pump fitting.

This will work with the 1974-78 Mustang II power rack and pinion in conjunction with the suggested power steering pumps 910-32922-FORD and 910-32908-BLK. When using an early GM pump with Mustang II rack, you will also need flow reducer valve 910-32918. This valve reduces the fluid flow from three gallons-per-minute to two gallons-per-minute, which cures problems of twitchy steering when these components are used together.

Application:

  • 1974-1978 Must II Rack only

the hoses could have been more flexible and shorter for my app and the ends should have been straight instead of the 90 degree bend but I think it will work for know but I got a 1956 3100 pu with a 396 turbo 400 and t bird rack and pinion front end so with that said i'm happy just to find something to work?

No good

June 01, 2014
The hoses were by far to stiff, the fittings incorrect located on the pressure hose, impossible to twist or bend, I replaced these hoses to a similar product by messrs GottaShow which have swiwel fittings. Wouldn't recommend this product.
No, I would not recommend this product.

You will need to determine what thread your rack has for the hose connections. The 74 to 78 Mustang II used this configuration with 1/2-20 and 5/8-18 inverted flare connections, however it is very common to use an 82 to 88 T-bird rack which is 14mm and 16mm O-ring seal hose connections. The T-bird style rack uses hose kit 91032535.

Ignore last question....age factor!!! I was confused. I would like to know if the TUBING for the high and low pressure sides of the pump, etc. are the same...it appears the HIGH pressure is slightly smaller that the low pressure? is that true?

If your rack is an actual Mustang II rack you will need to reduce the flow from your stock pump to work with the rack. We have power steering pumps that have the proper valving to work with this rack such as part # 91032922-Ford. We also have a power steering valve part # 91032923 which would let you reduce the flow to the rack and let you use your existing pump. If you have one of our power racks it will work with a stock GM power steering pump.
