Answer this question
A:
You inquired about our medium arch rear spring under part number 91043105 and the rest of the information you furnished left room for a lot of possibilities. The medium arch is 10 inches from the bottom of the eyes to the bottom of the center of the arch as compared to the high arch of 15 ½”. Now in comparison to the original, it will be very difficult to make a judgment without knowing which arch you have and also what it is made out of. The other thing that comes into play is the spring rate and how much compression you are getting with the weight of the vehicle. If you put our spring on our T bucket weighing in at 1700-1800 pounds you get very little spring compression as compared to a full-fendered Model A with a blown Hemi in front and full fenders and a large fuel cell in back. You will simply need to measure your spring to see how tall it is and see how much it goes down when you put the weight on it. The dimensions are always at free height with no weight on the spring.
Q:
I'm familiar with installing rear springs with a regular eye and front springs with reverse and regular eyes, but how is the rear spring with reverse eyes installed? I'm considering putting one of these springs on my 1929 ford coupe. It is basically stock.

Answer this question
A:
That spring, part number: 91043105, is a 2" wide spring while the stock spring is a 2 1/4" wide spring. The reverse eye spring is installed just as you would install a regular eye spring. This spring is a universal hot rod spring and not a stock replacement or stock type lowering spring.
Q:
do you need a spreader to install this spring?

Answer this question
A:
These rear leaf springs will require spreading for connection to the shackles. A friction jack or hydraulic porta power with the appropriate feet is the simplest or you can load the spring with vehicle weight for installation. Depending on weight of vehicle installed on will determine the perch spacing. The heavier the vehicle the wider the perch spacing.
Q:
Please tell me the approximate compressed width of this spring if used under a typical steel body, V8, model A roadster. Not too sure of weight of the finished car, but I am guessing 2500 lbs total weight, with around 400 lbs unsprung, for 2100 lbs total on springs. 40% of that in rear for around 800 lbs????? Also would like you opinion on whether you think this spring is appropriate for this application.
Thanks much

Answer this question
A:
Speedway currently doesn’t have a compressed width chart for different weight vehicles on this spring. Normally on the Model A cars with Chevy V8 and normal hot rod attire the shackle mounts are welded on the rear end housing at 45” eye to eye. The spring will require spreading or compressing for hook up to the shackles. This will leave room for suspension travel without bottoming out the shackles.
Q:
will this spring lower my model a, and bolt to the original rear axle?

Answer this question
A:
This spring is NOT a direct replacement for most Model A applications. The spring is 2” wide and if you currently have a 2 ¼” wide spring it can be used with some modifications. The shackle bushings will need to be trimmed to allow proper fit inside the spring eye. Between the shackle plate and the bushing you will need to space the necessary 1/8” on each side. The spring eye is ¾” I.D. and will need to match your existing shackles or use our part number 91033325 shackles. Also the spring is only 38” eye to eye and may require alteration of the mounting points on the rear axle assembly to achieve proper suspension travel.
