Q & A

What's in the Box

Tried and true Mallory electronic distributor for your 1949-1953 Flathead Ford. Features magnetic breakerless ignition technology for greatly improved accuracy versus points-style distributors. For 12 volt systems only.

  • Easy 3-wire hookup
  • Adjustable mechanical advance
  • Self-lubricating bushings provide years of trouble-free service
  • Includes Mallory Super-Duty Cap and Rotor with brass terminals
  • Distributor drive gear not included (sold separately)

Note: This distributor requires 1.4 ohms of coil resistance. If you are using a coil with less than 1.4 ohms, you must use a ballast resistor that will achieve the required 1.4 ohm total resistance. If you are using coil # 447-45001, no resistor will be required.

New trick for an old dog

This Mallory distributor provides a centrifugal advance system where the stock vacuum advance is not possible with multiple carburetors. It also eliminates the need for gnition points and condensor. I understand Mallory has been bought out by MSD and the Mallory product line is to be discontinued.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This 49-53 Mallory distributor uses the original hold down. If you do not have the stock hold down we offer 54526211 which will work for you as well.

This Mallory distributor fits the 49-53 Flathead Ford engines and comes with the drive gear NOT installed. Customer will need to trial fit the distributor and gear and then drill the shaft at the proper location for installation of the gear thus achieving proper gear mesh.

1949-1953 Flathead Ford Distributor Drive Gear
(Part #91012701)

This gear attaches to the base of the distributor shaft on 1949-53 Ford V8's. Replace your worn, damaged or missing original gear with this top quality new one! Roll pin not included (reuse original pin).

Note: We recommend you replace the cam gear and distributor drive gear at the same time.

PerTronix 40001 Flame-Thrower Coil, Chrome
(Part #44745001)

The hotter the spark, the easier your engine will start, and this 40,000 volt coil is just the ticket to a quick start! Its higher voltage allows larger spark plug gaps for added power, smoother response and better fuel economy. These coils are internally resisted so they are compatible with many inductive ignition systems.

  • Smooth chrome finish
  • 40,000 volts
  • For use with 12 volt inductive ignition systems.
  • 1.5 Ohm primary resistance
  • Legal in all 50 states and Canada
