Can this part be altered to fit? I have this part, but it will not compress far enough to allow me to lock the plastic sleeve into the mating part within the column. I am thinking if I cut the lower part of the plastic sleeve, that would shorten the assembly and then perhaps I could get the little notch on the sleeve into the mating part within the column. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I do feel there is a bit of a spring loaded give in the part in the column, but not enough to compensate for the length of the wire and spring assembly.

Normally the horn button wire goes in without issues but the depth for attachment does vary from column to column. It may be the brass end where it crimps to the wire being distorted or the spring length actually too long. The plastic sleeve could be modified if you feel confident that the other two parts are going in all the way.

Is this the same wire that would be used in a 1989 chevy s-10 pick-up column? Any help would be great, thanks.

Part # 91064049 Commonly used on aftermarket columns if the horn button wire is not included but has also been used on OEM columns but does at times require modification for hook up to the existing wiring. This has the female for a spade connector on one end and the lock in plastic sleeve, spring, and brass contact button on the opposite end.
