SPEEDWAY GREAT. Grant just OK.

November 07, 2016
The delivery arrived quickly and I was happy. However, when I installed it I had a problem since the horn would "toot" in the middle of turns. After installing it 4 times I finally found the problem. The horn pickup plate that was installed on the back side of the splinter adapter during manufacturing was slightly offset so it was not centered on the wheel. This caused the horn brushes to touch both sides of the circuits on the offset plate for a short distance during turns which caused a short toot. SPEEDWAY came through without hesitation and sent a replacement adapter kit. I can only hope the replacement does not have the same problem when it arrives. GRANT should improve their Q C process.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Very easy to install. The skirt on the collar could be a little longer to cover the adapter plate better. Otherwise, it works fine.

There are two possibilities on the 64 Fairlane for the steering wheel adapter and it may be the date of manufacture. 4103294 or 4103285 are the two choices. If you could call Grant and give him the year and date of manufacture off the VIN tag they would be able to assist in choosing the correct one.

I think that they changed drive trains from Pintos to Ford Fairmont's in those Shay replicas at some point, but I'm unsure when. It looks like both Pinto and Fairmont columns would use the same steering wheel adapter. The part number for the steering wheel adapter I offer is 4103249 http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Grant-3-Bolt-Steering-Wheel-Adapters-Ford-Applications,46041.html.

I installed this kit on a 1976 Lincoln steering column and can't get the horn to honk I have grounded the column in 2 places & it still will not work. Any suggestions? This is a 76 Lincoln mark IV frame and running gear under a 49 Lincoln cosmopolitan 2 door sport coup.

If you have a good ground to the column and the horn button has good contact when pushed we suggest checking the horn for power. The horn button furnishes the ground only. You may have a blown fuse or poor connection at the horn for the power source.
