These kits include our gasser straight front axle, semi-elliptical springs, spindles, king pins, steering arms, tierod kit, brake kit, and hardware. Choose either 5 on 4-1/2" or 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern with standard brake kit or Wilwood brake kit. Standard brake kits use new rotors and GM metric style calipers. Brake lines not included. Shocks not included, but shock mounts are included. Assembly required.

Notes

  1. If using steel wheels with Wilwood kit, you will also need to purchase (2) steel shims part 835-3007500. These shims will prevent steel wheels from galling the aluminum hub.
  2. Rubber brake hoses generally cannot be adapted to Wilwood calipers. The caliper inlet fitting is a 1/8-27 NPT. The preferred method is to use steel adapter fittings at the caliper, either straight, 45 or 90 degree and enough steel braided line to allow for full suspension travel and turning radius, lock to lock.

this is a very simple kit,easy to use.it has been installed onto a 1932 studebaker sedan with no problems whatsoever.the only thing i would like to see is a choice of straight or dropped axles with this kit.otherwise,very nice kit.

I have a 69 elcamino, hub to hub measures 60". Will the 58 1/2" kit work? Do you have a 60" kit? I plan on using the better brake system you have available!

The 58 1/2" hub to hub width will move the front wheels inward 3/4" per side. If you are ok with that from a looks standpoint then it should work fine since the gasser kit will raise the front end up enough that tire clearance shouldn't be an issue. If you plan to use the Wilwood brakes that will add another 1/2" of width so with a Chevy axle kit such as 9103950 you would end up at 59" hub to hub. If you plan to use the stock style disc brakes then we would suggest a Ford axle kit such as 9103550 for the larger brake rotor size. That kit with standard brakes will give you 58 1/4" hub to hub. Also if you want we can build a custom length axle to get your hub to hub right at 60" like the original. Specify that you want this when ordering and we can do a custom axle length for an extra $25.

Remove the wheels from you vehicle and measure from left side hub to right side hub where the wheel bolts on. It's usually easiest to drop a straight edge down so that your tape measure can be ran across the vehicle without hitting the frame or suspension.

These gasser axle kits raise the front between 8” and 10”, depending on several things such as the weight of the vehicle and wheel/tire combos. We do offer dropped axles, 4” or 6” drop. However, these are only available 48” wide, so that would deliver a track width of 56½”.

With the Chevy spindle gasser kit the tie rod and drag link utilize a single hole steering arm with an adapter stud. Tie rod is below the arm and the drag link is above the arm on the adapter stud and goes between the spring and the frame. How does the suspension work with the solid mount steeering box? Using the chevy kit, how does the suspension work without binding the pitman arm? The ford kit is self expanatory but I don't see how the chevy kit will allow for the front end to move up & down.

This kit works exactly the same no matter if it is a Ford or Chevy kit. There is a steering arm bolted to each spindle with a tie rod that connects the steering arms. You will then have a drag link that connects the pitman arm on your steering box to the right hand spindle. Spring Rate The front of my car will weigh only 1400 pounds. These springs are rated at 400 lbs/inch. If I remove the bottom three leaves, what would my spring weight be? Would the main spring still have some travel & not be flat? Thanks.

Each spring in this gasser kit is good for about a 2500 pound car so unless you remove a leaf or two the ride would be extremely firm and not provide much suspension travel. The number of leaves to be removed is up to the individual customer for the ride height and quality of ride you prefer. Sorry we do not have a listing of spring rate per leaf. That is usually more of a trial and error method. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Originally the I beam axles from major automobile manufacturers had steering stops built into the area of the kingpin boss. We even offer the kingpin cross bolt spindle stop nut number 9101006 for those I beam applications. Most tube axles retain the kingpins with a set screw in lew of cross bolt. Some customers have designed stops on the steering arms or the axle as they desire but this is entirely up to the customer or builder.

Kit number 9103948 would give you 56 ½ track width or bolt surface to bolt surface that the wheels will bolt to. Compare this to your wheel and tire combination to see where they will fit in the fenders. For the heavier applications you may want to go with the Ford spindle kit as they come with 11” rotors for better stopping power under kit number 9103548.The springs are heavy enough for a 5000 pound rod and in many cases customers remove a leaf or two depending on the weight of their vehicle.

Our gasser axle kits such as 9103948 work on just about every application including your 56 Chevy. The kit comes with 9 ¼” rotors and if you desire the larger 11 inch rotors we suggest ordering the Ford spindle kit number 9103548 and bolt pattern for the wheels can still be of choice of 4 ½ or 4 ¾” on 5 bolt pattern. The 48” axle nets a 56 ¼ to 56 ½” track width and comparing this to the wheel and tire combination you plan on running will help you determine if the 48 or 50” would put the tires in your desired location in relation to the edge of the fender. The track width is hub face to hub face where the wheels will bolt on.
