Our Tuner adjustable cam gears have the same adjustability as our Ultra Series cam gears. Each gear is adjustable in one degree increments to a maximum +/- 10º (advance/retard). Anymore than 10 degrees is useless, you may as well just skip a tooth! Engine damage can happen to some cars after as little as 4 degrees. Other aftermarket gears are also only adjustable in 2 degree increments! Our engraved timing marks are accurate to within 1 minute of a degree (60 minutes in a degree)! There is no such thing as having to send our gears to a machine shop to be re-marked. Even with the simpler design our Tuner gears still end up being lighter than the stockers they replace. When every ounce counts its got to be a UR product.
Long term realiability of the teeth and timing belt are directly related to the shape of the tooth profile. Our tooth profile matches the OEM spec exactly for each gear we make. The outer cog section of our gears is black hard-anodized, to prevent wear from the timing belt. We use black harcoat because of the great contrast it gives against our engraved timing marks. Don’t let anybody try to fool you about the importance of clear hardcoat being harder and more durable than black hardcoat The fact is black hardcoat will out live your car and engine. So in the end the slight extra hardness will not matter! The 4-bolt locking pattern is plenty secure and like our Ultra Series gears we use only stainless steel hardware to ensure durability. This design provides a lifetime of worry-free adjustment.
Machining for optimum component fit is critical with adjustable cam gears. Any free play between the inner and the outer sections (enough to cause a clicking when moved from side to side) will cause the hardware to come loose no matter how much is tightened. Our extra care in the machining process guarantees you our gears will not come loose when you follow the torque specifications in our instructions.
