In the late 1950's, pedal car manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon of producing military style vehicles.
The lesser known Hamilton Company came out with two types of chain-driven Jeep pedal cars that featured traditional styling and heavy duty, welded steel construction. A bright blue, baked enamel finish and stars & stripes graphics were featured on the Air Force Jeep. The Army Jeep was much the same, but had different graphics. The Jeeps had a fold down windshield, a rear platform that doubled as an extra seat, a front bumper, metal side rails and a plastic "H" hood ornament.
Also from the Hamilton Company, came the bright red, chain-driven Tow Truck. It featured an adjustable seat, rear side rails, tool box and an authentic working tow hoist. A large front bumper allowed a hard pedaling youngster to push "broken down" side walk cruisers out of the way. An electric horn added to the fun of this service vehicle. A Fire Patrol Jeep was also offered from Hamilton.
The traditional Jeep styled vehicles had short production runs and today are difficult to find, but they're worth looking for as the sturdy bodies have stood up well to the test of time.
These cars were offered with different graphics painted on the sides. The background colors accurately depict original paint color schemes from Hamilton.
