Did not fit

April 08, 2015
I not the most knowledgeable about these vehicles, my chevy is older than me. But the pan that was sent was not deep enough for my TH400. I asked a chevy tech and he said they did make two sizes but when I call around (chevy and aftermarket) I am told there is only one size pan for this transmission.
No, I would not recommend this product.

No more leaks!

Tried different pans and gaskets but leaks always come back. First think when I opened the box you noticed the quality and craftsmanship that went into this product. The greatest thing is finally no more leaks. Big Thanks to the guy's at Speedway Motor's

Very good product

I got this aluminum transmission pan to replace a warped pan that was pressed steel. For the price I think it was a great idea. If anyone goes to do a rebuild or just wants to replace an old rusted pan this is the one to get. I like the fact that it has a drain plug.
Pros:
  • Everything
Cons:
  • Nothing
Yes, I recommend this product.

I don't know what year my transmission is. The pan hits the bolt that holds the filter. If I remove the bolt and the filter, the pan still hits the plastic pick up tube. The original pan is definitely deeper. I like the pan and I want to use it.Any ideas? I purchased the T Bucket as a running car.

Apparently you have a pickup transmission of which many 400’s had a deeper more volume oil pan. The pan you have is 2 ¼” deep as compared to a stock passenger car pan with 2” in depth. You will need to change to the filter housing and pickup tube from a car transmission. You may want to check with a transmission shop for modification costs to the transmission or simply used parts availability to do yourself.

Pan does not clear filter I received this pan for my turbo 400 transmission cleaned up all the old gasket, applied a thin coat of sealant to the pan, installed the gasket and when I put it up to the transmission it won't seat against the transmission .It is hitting the filter .more so in the front where the filter attaches to the pick-up tube? I am not sure of the year of the tramnsmission ,the bolt pattern is correct .I went to the local salvage yard and removed a pan from a 1972 Chevrolet and check the length of the pick-up tube and was the same as mine. Do I have to modify the tube.

First I would make sure that your pickup tube is fully seated in the transmission and the filter. Next measure the inside depth of your stock pan and compare it to this aluminum pan. It is possible that you would need to cut down the pickup tube a little but when you said that the filter hits more so in the area of the pickup tube than the rest of the filter that leads me to believe that the pickup tube may not be fully seated.

Is this compatible with/for a 1969 TH400 on an Olds? Original steel pan is on it and weeps/leeks a fair amount and new gasket does not fix, only slows it for a short time. I have "heard" this is the fix, any input to that?

The original steel pan may be warped and bent on it's mating surface causing a new gasket to be ineffective. A replacement pan will have a fresh straight mounting surface for a gasket and Permatex makes a sealer that would be appropriate for this application too.

Yes this pan will fit your Olds TH400 transmission. More than likely the bolts have been overtightened at one time and the pan was distorted, now causing it to leak even with a new gasket. A new transmission pan should fix your leaking problems.

Will this fit the factory TH400 in a 1978 Jeep CJ7? I thought I once heard the Jeep was different, possibly due to the front drive shaft.

This transmission was used on a Jeep and as such the pan should bolt on with no problem. However be sure to verify that the transmission actually is a TH400 first.

From what was researched this GM TH400 pan # 91022810 would be the same for your 400 transmission. The difference being the ouput shaft and tail shaft housing to your specific transfer case.
