This GM short manual release bearing has the flat face and designed to work with the multi fingered diaphragm style pressure plate.

There are several lengths of the mechanical style of release bearings. As a general rule, the "short" bearing is used with a diaphragm style of pressure plate and the "long" bearings are used with a 3-finger style of pressure plate. The geometry of the release lever dictates exactly which length of bearing is most suitable for a given clutch configuration.
