What's in the Box

Info

The Chevrolet Performance CT350 circle track crate engine delivers competitive and durable power at an economical price! Designed for circle track's weekend warriors, this bullet-proof 350-horsepower, 350-cubic-inch IMCA-sealed racing crate engine (often referred to as the "602 crate") is a tough combination of power and reliability – and it fits almost any racing budget.

Based on GM Performance Parts' popular 350 HO engine, including a brand-new, four-bolt-main block, 9:1 hypereutectic pistons, cast iron crankshaft and GM iron Vortec cylinder heads, the 350/350 Factory Stock version features a high-rise dual-plane intake manifold, 8-quart single kick-out circle track oil pan, valve cover kit with breather tube and breather, and special "kool nut" rocker arm nut design. The 350 HO's unique dual-pattern cam is included, too. It's based on the one found in 1965-67 Corvette 327 engines, but with more lift and duration to clear the engine exhaust quickly and move in more air – providing excellent mid- and high-range power, where you need it on the track.

The 602 crate engine is delivered complete from the oil pan to the intake manifold – including an HEI distributor – the 350/350 CT350 racing crate engine has the proven parts and horsepower to enable a competitive racecar. Getting it into the winner's circle, however, is your job!
  • Track-tested durability
  • Great mid-range power
  • Best horsepower value around
  • Comes sealed with IMCA issued bolts and is approved for use in IMCA
  • Popular in Hobby Stock, Factory Stock, Street Stock, Sport Modified, and Truck classes*

  • Compression Ratio: 9.1:1
  • 92 Octane recommended fuel

Notes

  1. Requires the addition of a carburetor, starter, water pump, spark plugs, and plug wires (not included). See 121-8602 for a "dressed" & dynoed version of this engine.
  2. Requires an externally balanced flywheel (not included).
  3. The 8-quart Circle Track oil pan is 8 inches deep at the sump. It will clear most GM rear-steer chassis with the stock engine location.
  4. For Circle Track Racing only - not intended for street use.

Warranties

All GM Performance Parts racing crate engines are excluded from the limited warranty.

I suggest spark plugs 9103526 for this 602 Crate engine. We list them as 604 spark plugs but they are the correct thread, taper seat, and reach length for a 602 as well. The NGK heat range 7 is what you want on a 602 running gas.

What realistic RPM limit do these crates have? Our class runs these crates with a 4 barrel vs built 355s with steal heads and a 2 barrel.. With the built motors they are turning upwards of 7200 rpm, these are saying 5500 max. How are these engines competitive? I know running a diff gear will allow a lower rpm on the same size track but.... Corner exit excell Will suffer by far in comparison.

I bought a brand new IMCA sealed 602 last fall. I ran 25 nights this year with it in my Southern Sportmod and won 22 main events, a lot of those wins came with us competing against open motors. We run a 6200 chip but I found that the nights we ran the best we only turned 5700-5800 RPM.

We can turn 6400 with a 6.00 gear before valves start floating and bad things happen.

IMCA mandates a 6200 RPM rev limiter on all of the 602 crate engines. They have a very good service life of the engine as long as the valve springs are replaced at 10 to 20 race night intervals. Increasing the RPM beyond that point will have a significant reduction in the valve spring life as well as larger possibilities of engine/valve train failure.

What is the horse power advantage over older style heads like camel humps? If an engine has the same exact build except camel hump heads instead of vortec heads what would the horse power difference be ?

That is a good question. The only way to know for sure is to build it both ways and dyno them. My educated guess would be around 15 to 30 HP.

This engine is designed for circle track racing and fuel economy was not even considered when designing it. You would be much better off with a different engine. For a good mix of power and fuel economy I would suggest engine 35519210007 or 35519210008. They are the same basic engine but one comes more complete.

Sorry GM does not have vacuum specs on these engines. Also we do not offer the 603 crate engine, only the 602 and 604.

GM uses a brand new block to build this crate engine. It will be similar to that of the 1996 to 1999 Vortec truck block. The biggest difference between this block and an original Vortec block is that these engines have the provision for a mechanical fuel pump, where as the stock Vortec blocks require machine work to use a mechanical fuel pump.

These will hold about 8 quarts when you fill it the correct way. You are supposed to check the oil level by filling the pan 3/8" to 5/8" below the threads on the top inspection plug when the engine is warm and idling. Do not confuse the inspection plug with the drain plug, as they both use a 9/16 wrench head.

No, this engine has Vortec cylinder heads and it is a completely different intake manifold design compared to the classic 1985 and older intake manifold.
